“Loved the Park Royal!!”

Park Royal Cozumel

We absolutly loved the Park Royal! The hotel looks exactly as they do on the website. Everything about this hotel is clean & contemporary. The entire hotel has a Mayan theme- so everything is very rocky and the detail they put into the architecure and design of the hotel is amazing. Best hotel on the island by far.

*Good Things about this hotel*
1.) Check in was perfect- 4pm check in, the lobby was busy but we didn't have to wait long (we also went during the slow season). The lobby is gorgeous- it is under a giant tiki hut!
2.) The rooms are gorgeous- beautiful balconies, very clean, marble floors, bathrooms, & showers. The maids were great!
3.) Wait until you see the swim up bars by the beach. There are 2 infinity pools right on the water and the bartenders are so nice- they make the best drinks. They do not skimp on the alcohol at all, like most all inclusive places
4.) The sports bar is alot of fun- good drinks and good atmosphere.
5.) 5 minute ride to downtown San Miguel where there are bars like Carlos and Charles, Senor frogs, hard rock, etc - lots of touristy shopping (tshirts, souveneirs, jewlery). 10 minute ride to the airport
6.) I highly recommend the Jeep Excursion & ATVing (best on a rainy/cloudy day- luckily we only got one of those!)
7.) If you are a licensed diver (i'm not), this is the best place to dive!
8.) Free internet & computers

*Not so good things*
1.) The food was pretty good- I would say average. We got alittle sick from the mexican a la cart. However, if you're coming to Cozumel for the food- then you will be disappointed. Definitly go into San miguel and try "Prima"- great Italian! Don't get excited about the snack bar- it is the same food every day.
2.) The "voltures", as we like to call them. They are "Royal Holiday" which is a new travel agency. They will sit at the top of the lobby stairs and try to lure you in to their promotions. And they actually tell you that they get commision if you go to their 75 minute program (great sales technique). DONT DO IT! They will tell you that you will get deals with excursions. *BUT* if you walk out of the hotel, there is a little yellow office that has great deals- ask for Francisco!
3.) The gym costs $5 for each time you want to use it- ridiculous

All in all, we had an amazing time and met alot of great people. I would definitly come back and I highly recommend this place.

We spent a wonderful, relaxing, week at the Park Royal from 6/30-7/6/08. We loved it. The food was delicious...way above average for all-inclusive. Drinks were a little weaker than normal even with premium alchohol but it was probably in our best interests. We had a beautiful room with an ocean view and king size bed. The resort was very clean. Rooms and restaurants spotless. We were amazed at how hard the staff worked to keep up with everything. Anything we needed, we just had to ask. We did attend the vacation club presentation and got discounted admission for Dolphinarus (swim with dolphins) and the Atlantis Submarine. Both were awesome and highly recommended. We were not pressured during the presentation and if you can afford it, seems like it might be a good deal for those who enjoy travel. If you are looking for a relaxing, low-key vacation spot, this is the place! We will definitely be going back!

This hotel is well worth the money if you book through an internet site. We stayed 5 days and 4 nights and had a great time. My girlfriend and I are not very picky eaters and enjoyed every meal. We took advantage of the restaurants every night and only ate at the buffet in the morning and for lunch. The beach was very nice and well maintained. The pools were great and I really enjoyed the swim up bar. The liquor is not top self but who would expect that anyways. We did get approached by the time share people but we were able to say no and they left you alone. The staff was very helpful. The only complaint is the beds.....they are very stiff. I got use to it after about two days but that would be the only complaint. All in all I would stay there again if we decided to go back to Cozumel and think you will enjoy it.

“Best vacation ever”

Park Royal Cozumel

We traveled to Cozumel and Park Royal June 30 - July 5th. I had gotten a good deal with Travelocity and while I was a little apprehensive due to some negative reviews about check-in and the food, we got excited as we got nearer to leaving. We traveled with our two sons - 16 and 20 - and it was a perfect choice. When we arrived, we were checked in and in our room within 15 minutes (after being greeted with a drink). Our room was spacious and while we didn't have a great view, I got what I paid for and was satisfied. We ate the buffet the first night because it was too late to book one of the other restaurants and the food was good. I am typically not a beach person but LOVED spending my days at the private beach - it was small but we never had trouble finding lounge chairs under the wonderful bamboo huts. Our oldest son liked the pool better and would stay there - he was old enough to drink in Mexico and soon made friends with all the bartenders. The drinks are great - Blue Cozumel was good but the Banana Daiquiris and Electric Lemonades are heavenly. The bar doesn't open until 11:00 am, which means there aren't even soft drinks available until then - I am a Diet Coke addict so soon found my way to the convenience store each morning. The price for the Diet Coke was the same as in the US so not a big deal. We tried all three restaurants and I thought all were good - reviews I had read leaned towards the Italian restaurant but I wasn't overly impressed with it......good quality but nothing special. I really liked the Mexican restaurant best. Their were water and beach activities planned daily and my boys enjoyed volleyball and pool games. The activities staff works hard to entertain nightly at the gorgeous ampitheater and there is even a children's show prior to the nightly entertainment. Some nights it was all audience participation and other nights there was live entertainment - not professional quality but a nice way to end the evening. The view of the cruise ships didn't bother me at all - we've cruised in the past and the ships are beautiful. One potential drawback is that apparently the cruise ship passengers can pay to enjoy Park Royal as one of their excursions.....one afternoon there was a particular rowdy bunch of young people that took over one of the pool bars by the beach - even my 16-year old complained about them. They didn't stay too long. The vacation club people didn't bother us but if you ask a question at the Concignere's desk, be prepared to be offered a deal to sit through the presentation. We elected to do that in exchange for saving $60 on a snorkel trip with a quaint Mexican outfit that was great. The hour paid off, however, as Oscar recognized us from that point on and helped get taxis, etc as we needed something later. Cab ride into town is anywhere from $5 - 7 for a party of 4. We splurged one night and ate at Carlos and Charlies - a must for my teenagers! Park Royal was a gorgeous place and a good old fashioned smile typically gained a returned smile and a "Halo" from all the workers.....they don't all have glamerous jobs just as we don't and didn't always seem to be the happiest to be there but again, a smile worked wonders. If I had the chance to return tomorrow, I would. The airport is small and not difficult to get through (watch how many batteries you have in your carry-on. I didn't know there was a limit and had to hand over quite a few). This was our first all-inclusive resort; however, we've cruised 3 times with various lines. Accommodations were better than a cruise, service was comparable, food was not quite as good as most dining room meals on a cruise and the entertainment is nowhere near as professional BUT it was fun and we got to know some of the activities people just by attending things. I'd recommend Park Royal to anyone unless they are really picky.

“Very Nice Resort, BUT.........Timeshares, Timeshares, Timeshares”

Park Royal Cozumel

Jul 13, 2008

My wife and I stayed at the Park Royal Cozumel in July 2008 for 6 days and 5 nights. The location of the resort and the way that it is set up is outstanding. We very much enjoyed the pools and bars overlooking the ocean daily. We also enjoyed the cold water jacuzzi tubs right above the ocean. The snorkeling, scuba diving, and water activities at Park Royal are some of the best we have experienced in Cozumel.

That being said, we were disappointed in the quality of the food, the fact that we were given two beds that were smaller than a full-size, and the hospitality of some staff members. My wife and I are both over six foot tall and we were both longer than our beds. We asked for a king bed, and as many other before us, were told that none were available.

My main and biggest disappointment with this resort was that their main focus is selling timeshares to the guests. Every where you walk, one of the staff members is trying to get you to take a tour and to listen to their presentation. They are more than happy to offer you a free car for the day, if you will give them 75-90 minutes about their timeshares. Once we said no over and over, then some of them actually became condescending and sarcastic. We go on vacation to relax and get away from the day to day, not to be constantly barraded about a timeshare.

Overall, it is a nice resort and with the help of some much needed managerial changes, it would be one of the better places in Cozumel to stay for a family trip or a romantic getaway. But for now, you better love to hear about timeshares or have a great set of earplus. We wont be going back here for a long time.

    • Disliked — I definitely was most dissapointed in the constant pushing of timeshares to the guests
