Casa Mexicana Cozumel

Stayed there for a week Feb 08 and had a very enjoyable stay. The staff was most friendly and attentive. We booked a non oceanview room and my wife asked at check in, if available could we get an oceanview room. They had one but it was going to be like $35 more per night. She was hoping for a free upgrade so we said no thanks, we'll go with what we booked and the receptionist picked up the phone , I thought she was answering it, and she spoke for a bit in spanish, hung up and said she'd spoke to the manager and we could have the room for $28 more per night and my wife said no that's ok we'll be fine with the non OV so went to check into our room and it was a nice room and we took a look at our view and it was a view of people's back yards hanging laundry and all. She gave me the look and I said if you want the other room fine. So we did . We had more fun watching the comings and goings of the cruise ships and there passengers. I had brought binoculars. The water is pretty to look at as well. The 3rd floor room was very clean and comfortable. We brought a lap top and it was fun to send pictures while we were there. The included breakfast buffet was very good, like you'd get on a cruise or decent AI. We had a rental car so we got around.Seemed like we walked to restaurants every evening for dinner. You're so close to the center of things in town, very convient. The food was very good everywhere except for Carlos and Charlie's. We'd gone to the one in Cancun 20 something years ago and it was fine. This one was lousy. This was our first real visit to Cozumel except for an 8-6 stop on a cruise we'd taken a couple years ago. We had a great time snorkeling and going to the beach. Very relaxing. We hope to return soon and will certainly look into staying at this hotel again.

“SUPER Clean and SUPER Location!”

Casa Mexicana Cozumel

My boyfriend and I just got back from a spectacular 7-night trip to Cozumel and stayed at the Casa Mexicana. We decided to splurge and get an ocean view room. I loved waking up to the ocean every morning. It also was neat to be see the different cruise ships that would dock each day.

The room was VERY clean, and the beds were comfortable and soft (but not too soft). (things everyone else is saying in these reviews). Having the mini fridge was nice too. One evening we ventured to the grocery store and got a couple of things. I don't have much to add to the others' positive reviews.

The breakfast buffet was also great.

We dove with Aqua Safari - which was really convenient because their shop (and dock) was about 1/4 of a block away. They're also GREAT!

Free internet access was also a nice feature. They had 4 computers for internet use (w/USB ports) and also WIFI throughout the hotel (rooms and lobby).

This hotel is also in a great location. If you don't mind walking, we were able to get around for shopping and meals, without a car, easily. We DID end up renting one to tour the island. But for normal day-to-day things, you don't need one.

The only negative thing I had about this hotel was that on 2 different nights, there were people that were a little loud down in the lobby bar in the middle of the night for a short bit of time. Since everything is so open (which is normally a GREAT feature), noise travels nicely. It wasn't bad enough for us to complain to the front desk...just wanted people to be aware.

All in all, I HIGHLY recommend staying here!

“Casa Mexicana”

Casa Mexicana Cozumel

March 3 2008

My wife and I have been traveling to Cozumel for the past 10 years we love the atmosphere. When the opportunity to take a quick trip to the island, we booked a 4 day stay at Casa Mexicana. My Wife had stayed at the Casa Mexicana once before and enjoyed.

The room was not huge but adequate. The room had a large closet w/mirrored doors complete with a newer ironing board and newer iron. The bathroom was nice but not real big; however two people could share without to much trouble. The shower gets low marks low marks. A mere trickle from the water conservation shower head. Not quite what we are used to at home, but it was hot and it worked fine.

Large Armoire/ Entertainment unit holds the TV, with lots of channels about 45 or so in Spanish and 5 or 6 in English, some with Spanish subtitles. Below there were two large drawers below and two smaller doors, behind the doors was a small refrigerator and an ice bucket and two glasses.

We asked for an Ocean view with a king bed. I was surprised by the comfort of the bed, typically when staying at any other hotel we have a hard bed. But this was a nice “pillow-top” mattress. It was great. By far the best bed we have ever had in Mexico.
The back of the room was very nice. A huge sliding glass door the full span of the room. Behind them was a very big very private balcony. The view was not the greatest in the world but all we need was to see “That Blue”.

The room comes with a full breakfast. From left to right, there is a small steam table with some staple breakfast dishes. Scrambled eggs, Potatoes, sausage, bacon, and some traditional Mexican dishes, such as beans and plantains. There is a Chef ready to cook your eggs to order, omelets, as well as “Huevos Rancheros” eggs over easy served on tortillas with a red but not real spicy sauce. There is a self-serve toaster, with other assorted small rolls. There is a “self-serve” juice machine with a large bowl of Carrots.
On the right of that is an assortment of cold breakfast items, Yogurt and yogurt drinks. There are lots of fruits, fresh cut pineapple, watermelon, and some canned items Peaches and Pears to name a few.

After breakfast we would head to a beach club somewhere south and not come back until after sunset. Housekeeping was good every day we had fresh towels and clean sheets. We like to leave a gratuity for housekeeping, not much but we wanted to let them know we appreciated the nice job they do. And we not only had a clean room, but we also had a new towel animal every evening upon our return.

The Casa Mexicana overall was a very nice, the staff was very pleasant. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is not familiar to the island because of its location to town. But my only 2 pieces of advise to new travelers to the island. 1. Don’t get sucked in by the all of the street venders, wanting to give you a car for ten bucks a day, and free breakfast. 2. Remember not having the day all planned out might be you’re best plan.

Happy Traveling !!!!!!

“Centrally located, immaculate rooms, great staff!”

What a find! This great little hotel is centrally located, just minutes from the main ferry terminal where boats leave for Playa del Carmen and many other points of interest on the mainland Yucatan. If you're looking for a sedate self-contained beach resort with its own private beach, this is NOT the place for you. This little gem is a town hotel, close to restaurants, bars, car rental agencies and the many dive shops this island is known for. The staff is superb: helpful, knowledgable and very, very (did I say very?) friendly. There is wee swimming pool and patio above the main street where you can have a drink and sun yourself. The beds are ultra-comfortable and the daily buffet breakfast--included in rate--is outstanding! Eggs cooked to order, tropical fruits, fresh squeezed carrot juice and lots of Mexican traditional specialties to keep you sated before or after a day in the crystalline waters all around. I would very much recommend this place and stay there again.

“Can't Wait to Come Back!”

Casa Mexicana Cozumel

Our second stay at Casa Mexicana and it was as enjoyable as the first. Large, clean, air conditioned rooms. In-room internet is free, if you bothered to bring your laptop, but there is a free computer room in the lobby, if you just need to check your email.

The breakfast is varied and delicious, with a number of made-to-order items. The buffet line always has eggs, pancakes, waffles and freshly squeezed orange juice. Casa Mexicana also has room service for snacks and light meals. But this may be only during the high season.

The small lobby bar, is a great place to meet before heading out to nearby restaurants, and Jimy or his colleague is always there to serve you a drink or chat.

The front desk will hold your bags for you, if you take an overnight side trip to Playa del Carmen, or other areas on the Mayan coast.

Don't need a rental car as taxis to other parts of the island are plentiful and relatively inexpensive.

The staff is friendly and responsive. I can't wait to go back again.
