My wife and I have been traveling to Cozumel for the past 10 years we love the atmosphere. When the opportunity to take a quick trip to the island, we booked a 4 day stay at Casa Mexicana. My Wife had stayed at the Casa Mexicana once before and enjoyed.
The room was not huge but adequate. The room had a large closet w/mirrored doors complete with a newer ironing board and newer iron. The bathroom was nice but not real big; however two people could share without to much trouble. The shower gets low marks low marks. A mere trickle from the water conservation shower head. Not quite what we are used to at home, but it was hot and it worked fine.
Large Armoire/ Entertainment unit holds the TV, with lots of channels about 45 or so in Spanish and 5 or 6 in English, some with Spanish subtitles. Below there were two large drawers below and two smaller doors, behind the doors was a small refrigerator and an ice bucket and two glasses.
We asked for an Ocean view with a king bed. I was surprised by the comfort of the bed, typically when staying at any other hotel we have a hard bed. But this was a nice “pillow-top” mattress. It was great. By far the best bed we have ever had in Mexico.
The back of the room was very nice. A huge sliding glass door the full span of the room. Behind them was a very big very private balcony. The view was not the greatest in the world but all we need was to see “That Blue”.
The room comes with a full breakfast. From left to right, there is a small steam table with some staple breakfast dishes. Scrambled eggs, Potatoes, sausage, bacon, and some traditional Mexican dishes, such as beans and plantains. There is a Chef ready to cook your eggs to order, omelets, as well as “Huevos Rancheros” eggs over easy served on tortillas with a red but not real spicy sauce. There is a self-serve toaster, with other assorted small rolls. There is a “self-serve” juice machine with a large bowl of Carrots.
On the right of that is an assortment of cold breakfast items, Yogurt and yogurt drinks. There are lots of fruits, fresh cut pineapple, watermelon, and some canned items Peaches and Pears to name a few.
After breakfast we would head to a beach club somewhere south and not come back until after sunset. Housekeeping was good every day we had fresh towels and clean sheets. We like to leave a gratuity for housekeeping, not much but we wanted to let them know we appreciated the nice job they do. And we not only had a clean room, but we also had a new towel animal every evening upon our return.
The Casa Mexicana overall was a very nice, the staff was very pleasant. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is not familiar to the island because of its location to town. But my only 2 pieces of advise to new travelers to the island. 1. Don’t get sucked in by the all of the street venders, wanting to give you a car for ten bucks a day, and free breakfast. 2. Remember not having the day all planned out might be you’re best plan.
Happy Traveling !!!!!!
