This is a great little, diver-friendly hotel with many repeating guests, which is recommendation enough but having just returned from Villa Las Anclas for the second time we thought it only fair this time to do a review and show what some of the few British visitors to the island think. It is difficult to find something others have not already said so do read through all the other reviews as well.
We love Cozumel and this hotel really helps. It is no surprise to us that Tripadvisors three top rated hotels on the island are all small 'independents'. Las Anclas is the only one of those near the centre of the town and in walking distance of everything you are likely to use and yet is pretty quiet for all that. There is certainly no nightime noise though you might be woken by the odd early morning cockerel or two!
The two storey ‘villas’ are simply enormous compared to your average hotel room, very light and clean with maid service and change of towels every day. With a good lounge area, 100 channel TV, kitchenette with sink, fridge, coffeemaker and microwave and fully tiled bathrooms with hairdryer and plenty of hot water (good water pressure too) what more can you want. Well there is an iron and ironing board for those that can’t live without it. There is wifi internet connection but if this is important to you ask for units 2 or 3 or sit in the garden which is a well planted, sometimes shady courtyard garden in which to sit an hour or two or the whole day if you wish. For divers there is a good gear drying area, with hose and hanging rail and lots of room in the villa when sorting out the gear. I suppose it’s not perfect but for us you really can’t beat it. The owners Pedro and Eyal live on site and are very involved and generous with their time.
I think all the Tripadvisors price indicators need some updating but at $100 a room low season and $120 in high we think they are good VFM as is the diving at $55 a two tank dive. For diving we have only used Blue Angel at Caribe Blu which is linked with the hotel and we like them and their dive guides and with their fast small boats if you get up for the 8.30 dive boat you will be back by lunchtime and with the rest of the day free for that post dive beer, best taken at the bar/restaurant over the dive shop.
One of the main attractions to the island is the quality of its restaurants. Everyone has their favourites and we would especially recommend 'Kinta' (newly opened and my favourite this year), La Veranda (beautiful outdoor gardens with this year an excellent spanish guitar playing Norwegian!), Le Cocay (gardens too and really well presented food), Le Chef (close to the hotel with food is as good but neither the setting nor the presentation is as pretty). There are plenty more to try.
We have no problem in recommending Hotel Villa Las Anclas and Cozumel as we know we will be coming here again and the hotel deserves a return to the no1 spot soon.
