Just off the Plaza, the Suites Colonial is my favorite .My sister lives in town and as a solo female traveler I always feel very safe at the Colonial. When my husband travels with me he loves the price. I book a suite and have what amounts to a good sized 1 bedroom apartment , complete with full kitchen , huge bathroom , big bedroom with TV and living room. It's nice to sit on the balcony and watch the action in town below. The staff is friendly and housekeeping does an amazing job. those women are clean freaks-- you could eat off the floor !Tip them well ( at the very least $1 a day-- it's their only pay )The pastries and coffee in the morning are a real treat and the book exchange in the lobby has saved me on rainy days. I love staying in the middle of town and wouldn't deam of going to an all inclusive-- there are too many good places to eat on the island,most of them within walking distance of the Suites Colonial ( yes it's safe to walk around )let people know you are staying on the island ( not on a ship), treat people with respect and you will be richly rewarded as the people of Cozumel are among the nicest in the world.

What a deal. The hotel is right off the square and a great breakfast place close by (Coco's). Tile floors, balconies a jug of drinking water in the fridge and an electric stove. May not be oppulent but great value and clean.

I stayed here five years ago and found that the hotel was clean and decent. It was conveniently located near the square as well.
