Having been to Cozumel a few years back, we kind of knew what we were looking for and that wasn't one of the large Hotels / AI's. Although they are great, they just aren't really our style of traveling. After much deliberation in finding a place, we decided to stay for a week at Casita De Maya and it was absolutely wonderful.

As other people have mentioned on this site, Dan is a great host and is always there for you when you need him. Not only did he give us great recommendation about restaurants and local festivals to check out, but he also hooked us up with a great deal on a rental car. Like many other travelers, we were a bit weary of renting a car in Mexico, but Dan helped make it a smooth transaction.

If you are looking for a first class room and service, while at the same time saving some money at a great price, I would highly recommend staying with Dan at Casita de Maya...you will definitely be impressed!

My girlfriend and i stayed here for 3 nights in March and had a wicked time. Dan is a great host, met us at the gate, knew our names, took us to a local restaurant etc etc.

The hotel is small and boutique(3 rooms) but has a little pool for you to use, breakfast was really nice and and the rooms are fantastic. We really enjoyed the 'moroccan style' rooms and all the mod cons at a decent price.

Cozomel itself is ok, the place is busy with tourists and as we were travelling across mexico and south to belize the crowd of people were not the sort we were after and tended to be american tourists on cruise ships.

Tips: Book with Dan, get the recommendations from Dan on the local food.

The Casita De Maya was very accurately described from previous reviews I had read. The hotel had a great laid back, airy vibe. Dan was so very helpful with his plethora of recommendations. I especially appreciated his attempts to keep us away from places that were too 'touristy'.

The hotel was very clean. The shower had great water pressure. The AC was good. The pool was a nice reprieve from the busier 'cruise ship' days. Overall, I felt like we stayed at a friend's house and not some cheesey, people piled on top of one another, we like to trap you in our clutches resort!

Helpful hint: 1) if you have enough people (roughly 6) you would have the whole place to yourself...that is awsome! We had a few days were it was just my group there and it made for a home away from home. Luckily ,even when there were 2 other guests present it was still very tranquil. 2) Not the place for kids!!!!!!!

The best decision my group of 4 made while in Cozumel was to rent a jeep and explore the island. Dan helped facilitate the rental.

stayed Feb 26th -Mar 6th. We had a great time at Casita De Maya. Dan is the "Man" . He is the hotel host and we were in good hands. He told us where to visit and what spots gave us the best deals. He is very patient, and for a couple like us that knew little Spanish, he made sure that we were well taken care of and NOT taken advantage of. He called taxis and booked excursions for us. Very personal and friendly. The location of Casita de Maya is very convenient. It is only $2 cab ride away from the square and a walking distance to the airport. But yet we never heard the planes .We enjoyed our stay and rate our overall experience as excellent!!!
