We were here in the off season (Oct 16-20) and hung out on La Quinta every night. It was great! Our hotel was located pretty far north (calle 30) so we would start there and walk down. We loved the area within 8 or so blocks of our hotel, but the close you get to the ferry dock, the more touristy and "Cancunish" it gets, and less pretty. The northern area is absolutely beautiful though, with great open-air resturants, most reasonably priced with great food (never had a bad meal!) and a wide variety of atmosphere, from chic european-style boutiques and bars to funky mexican handicraft stalls and authentic food. The internet bar was a real treat, and the lighting and jungle ambiance of all the flora really adds to the experience. We were sad to leave, we could've spent a week here! Also note that the shopping here for authentic and interesting goods is the best I found on the whole Riviera Maya. I got a great selection of reasonably priced (and downright cheap!) Dia De Los Muertos stuff here. I look forward to many nights hanging out on La Quinta in the future!
