First I just read someone else's review about how the staff handed them a mop when the room had a problem. And this example is a perfect illustration of the lack of concern for guests at this hotel. Initially, I read the other reviews and figured ok, I'll try it. My concern was noise on 5th ave. Well, it turned out not to be noisy, just completely charmless and sterile. I checked in about 4 pm and the guy at the desk couldn't have cared less about service. He was not rude (he was never rude), he was simply unconcerned about most everything. And then he gave me one of only two rooms next to the lobby. Actually I was placed right next to the restaurant. I figured I'd never sleep, but he did at my request ask the restaurant to turn off the music at 10:30 p.m. I use a white noise machine and ear plugs whenever I travel so I did not hear much- a good thing.
The really odd thing about this room was it was so LIGHT!! They had these weird lights right outside the room (remember this is the lobby) and it looked like Christmas coming through my window all night. But inside the room- was darker than any room I'd ever stayed in. The lighting was terrible. The only place to read was in the SHOWER. I don't mean in the bathroom, I mean the SHOWER. So if you don't care to read, and you like sleeping in the light and you don't mind taking a chance in getting the room next to the lobby, try this. If you can be assured of an upstairs room, maybe it's ok.
Oh, yeah, when I told the woman at the desk my concerns about the lighting problems she just stared at me like I was radioactive. They just can't be bothered with trying to make the hotel more to the guests' liking.

This was a great discover for me, at the 4th time in Playa.
Located in the most quiet part of the Quinta Avenida (the central avenue of Playa), is near to Mama Playa, a beautiful place to stay and take sun, even in its "clubby" beach.
It has an italian restaurant too, Limoni, wich is followed by an italian manager.
The hotel is in mediterranean style, with a little but lovely caribbean garden in the middle.
It has a Jacuzzi for 6 people located on the roof.
The peculiarity is a great shower for a nice and relaxant one after a day on the white sand beach.
Ask for a little discount!

A gem for the budget conscious. Inexpensive,simple, clean, and great location. Hotel is located on the main street Ave. 5 where you will find all of the action, cafes, shops, and restraurants. It is a block away from the beach. This hotel had a European feel, most of the guest were European. Italian restaraunt is located downstairs. Friendly, multilingual staff and very accomodating providing us with recommendations on placed to eat among our favorites were La Cueva Del Chango, La Fe and Babes(all reasonably priced). We stayed in two different rooms because we wanted the one with the balcony and it wasn't available at the time of our arrival. Rooms were very comfortable and spacious yet dark and towels needed to be replaced with new ones. The room with the balcony towards Ave. 5 was a bit noisy at night(we had our 4 yr. old with us). Overall, we had a great time, despite the fact that it was a last minute trip(3 days prior to departing). We would would definately consider staying at Hotel Quinto Sol again.

Positvies:

-Located on one end of main street but within easy walking distance of all restaurants and shopping.
-Roof top jacuzzi open to all guests with an incredible view.
-Short walk to beach.
-Relatively inexpensive and clean.

Negatives:
-The room didn't have good lighting and the mattress was thin.
-If any food or drink was left out an ant problem would occur.
-Thin towels.

If you are on a budget this is a good deal; however, if you want luxury this isn't the place for you.
