The Deseo is trendy hotel in a great location on 5th Ave. The staff was very friendly and everyone at the reception desk spoke english. The rooms are clean and comfortable. No TV but who needs it in a beautiful place like this. They provided a free breakfast (cereal, bread, fruit, granola bars) by the pool everyday from 8am - 12pm. The Deseo has a bar by the pool that comes alive with music and people at night. It is honestly loud in any part of the hotel until at least 2am every night. It was a great place if you like to party late or if you can sleep through noise and take naps during the day. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Playa Del Carmen.

The Deseo is a lovely hotel in some respects. The rooms are minimalist and stylish, the staff are punctual and helpful, and the pool are and bar are great places to be. That said, the Deseo is a terrible hotel for one main reason - the noise levels that you will encounter will ruin your stay, especially if you are unlucky enough to be in one of the rooms that face onto the side street. We had very little sleep for 5 nights due to the constant rowdiness coming from the sleep. The inclusion of ear plugs in your room is not for show - you really will need them, but they are ineffective for the noise you will encounter. The other issue is that thr bar plays loud music until 1am every night. Given all rooms open out to this area, do not expect to get any sleep AT ALL before this time. I would argue the design of this hotel is fatally flawed. Im bitterly disappointed with my stay there. Dont say I didnt warn you.

I would love to give Deseo a great review. It is an interesting modern design hotel. However please be aware that the "Lounge" is a full blown Club/Disco with ( in my opinion) very obnoxious music. With some earplugs I started feel like I might get some sleep until bright flashes of light started pulling all my senses away from any hope of rest. They had some photographers out shooting the party all night long. It was miserable. I would only consider staying here if they shut down the club.....(unlikely) Also they charge more for Weekend nights Fri/ Sat which are the worst for noise....in my opinion they should be trying to get half the normal rate to put up with the techno.

I really want to give the Deseo more stars, but as I fight off stomach flu and a cold after staying there for a week, I simply can not do so. So, the good - the design is fantastic. Attention to detail in the design is excellent, it really is a study in minimalism, and I loved that element. But that is really all there is - you would expect a minimalist room with no TV, etc. to be very calming, an oasis of white. This would be the case if not for the location of the hotel and the operation of the poolside disco.

Now, I know that Playa del Carmen is a late night place and that is fine. But the Deseo is built around a pool courtyard that becomes a disco. This disco is open until 1:00 AM every night - and at times there were people there until 2:00 - 2:30 AM. There is no sound insulation at all in the rooms and the music is not really "lounge" music as mentioned in some reviews.

When the hotel bar closes, then the street life on 12th Street picks up. Until 6 AM, every day. I tried earplugs, staying out late, etc. - but I could not do it for 7 nights in a row. They must make more income off the bar than the rooms, because it is unbearable after a few days - I left absolutely exhausted. From a design perspective, the noise just bounces off all of the hard surfaces and there is not nearly enough attention to making the room sound-proof and a relaxing retreat.

I know I sound like an old fogey, but really am not - I love a trendy hotel, but think that one of the reasons to stay in a hotel is to get a good night's sleep. With some design changes, this place could be fantastic.
