“ALL 7 of us LOVED it!”

Discovery Jungle Park

We have taken many all-inclusive trips and we always do at least 1 special excursion - usually snokling, scuba diving, catermerans, etc. This year we thought we would try the jungle. It was something you certainly don't do on a normal trip - the ATV ride was great especially when you got into the jungle paths with the water (driving through the hundreds of butterflies was beautiful). The zip lines although very scary when you are ready to jump are a blast!! Then the swimming in the cave just tops it off. Then you get to drive back and race through the trials with all the water. We had 3 teenage "princess" girls who were all somewhat hesitant in the beginning - by the end as they were covered in mud and dust they couldn't stop laughing and it became a great memory for all of us. The guides are fun, informative, and put safety first - it is a must if you are visiting Playa Del Carmen!!

“ATV, Zip Line and Cenote”

Discovery Jungle Park

As noted in several other reviews the equiment was pretty wragged. We had a group of 15 but had an absolute riot. If you are looking for a tour that is very "Strickt and stringent" this is not the one for you. We had several ATV's that had to be jump started during the tour but it was because they were letting us drive them through mud puddles with 12-15" of mud and water as fast as we wanted. The brakes didn't work very well so think pretty hard about the age of the kids you want to go. We had a couple 12 year olds who did fine but had ridden before. The zip lines were a riot but I did hit a few trees and you did get the feeling that the line may break at any moment. This was truly an adventure and not a good one for the mom and pop looking for a boring ride through the jungle with a leisurely pace.
The people running the tour were very kind and helpful but this is a rustic tour, with old equipment so just be prepared. We were ok with it, but one of the other families was horrified. You have to drive a ways on the side of the highway and then on a dirt highway that has limited visibility once the dirt starts flying.
Also, if you book it yourself it is really cheep. $60 per person.

First and foremost, "Hello to our new friends at Discovery Jungle Park... Pedro, Ricky, Carlos & Santaol" !!!! We miss you! OK.. here it is straight up from four experienced ATV riders that know how to have fun and are eager to participate in new adventures. My family (Ray,RJ,Alyssa & Me, Mama Lucy) were picked up from our resort by Carlos on 3/16/08 for the first ride of the day with DJP.... the ride was quick, we arrived at the office/headquarters where we were greeted by the guides (our new friends) with enthusiasm... we were asked to grab helmets & goggles (we all wore sunglasses so didn't need the goggles) and filled out the "usual tour paperwork". After a brief wait for the remaining people that were booked that morning (total of group was bout 20, which is perfect in our experience as we have rode with various amounts of people... Discovery Jungle Park does not overbook, as they prefer to keep the tour small which adds to the enjoyment for all concerned!) After a brief instructional we were on our quads/atv's and on our way! Woohoo! Yes, we rode (as instructed) on pavement for a short mile or so, and into the jungle we went for about 10 miles.... OK, Listen folks, we have been riding in all types of terrain, this is the jungle in Mexico.. its "flat" , it can be dusty and it can be muddy... all depends on when you RIDE! We have experienced both in Mexico and had a blast in both extremes!! From the moment we set out to the time of our return we had a fantastic trip.... Our guides, Pedro, Ricky, Carlos & Santaol were top notch... funny, kind and most of all experienced in every aspect of the adventure....they made it the experience of a lifetime! Some of us rode fast in the front, and some who were new to riding took longer to catch up to the front, but that was OK! They were there to keep it all together and most of all safe for everyone. Their "shack" was perfect, sure maybe it had boards that were missing... no problem, we were in the JUNGLE, all part of the experience, be open minded, hey... there was "facilities" for the women and plenty of trees for the guys! ;-)
All equipment for the zip lines were in tip top shape and personal attention was given to everyone who participated.. I was not able to do the zip lines as I was recovering from surgery... instead I was the "paparrazi" and had a blast with the guides! Each and every zip line was better and more intense than the first and safe as can be, not sure what other people are talking about in other reviews... and NO, there were no people holding ladders, this I tell you is true. (not sure what tour that was on?!!) As for the Cenote, yes it is in a cave, and yes it does require many steps down into it, that is no lie and I am afraid of heights, BUT I did it, ! ... I went down and came back up with support and guidance of Ricky (one of the guides) he was so kind and patient that my fear of heights was conquered with his help.
Through the entire tour/trip we had so much fun, so many laughs, it felt like we all were a family! Some of us tasted the fruit by the "shack" which was similar to a pear, how eager they were to share something from their domain. We had a super fun ride back to the headquarters, some of us (myself and family) were right up front, me personally rode behind my man Ricky and had a fast blast of riding fun, kept up with him the entire ride home (45yr old Mom!!!) When we all arrived back, there was a place to wash your face from the dust.... yup you get dirty folks, thats all part of the fun!!!!! ATV riding means gettting dirty, the muddier and dirtier you get the better it is! Pedro handed out fresh mangoes for those who wanted, and taught us how to eat them.... they are juicy and delicious.....
PEOPLE , Pulleeeze, for those of you who are looking for fun and adventure in the natural environment of what Mexico's jungle has to offer, than this is the excursion for you... # 1, NUMERO UNO... THE BEST!
To Tripadvisor..... if Discovery Jungle Park isn't number one, they sure should be!!!!!
HASTA LUEGO MI AMIGO'S
Your friend, Lauren "mama lucy"

“Thrilling Adventure”

Discovery Jungle Park

5 of 5 stars

We rode the ATVs into the Jungle with a group of about 15. The ride is a thrill as you travel over an extremely bumpy trail (not suitable for the physically frail). The best part are the zip lines and swim in the cenote (underground cave). While they look shakey from a safety stand point the guides are very concerned about your safety and insure you are always hooked to something. Just DO IT for a real thrill and bragging rights!

“This is not safe and would not recommend to anyone”

First of all this was recommended to us by our travel rep. Let me say we do travel quite abit and have done simmilar tours before.

We were picked up at our resort 16 miles south of Playa. The seats were covered with plastic bags, which I can appreciate, you do get wet and dirty on these tours.

Here is were is goes down hill. We arrived at the office. We saw the so called ATV's. These are in such bad shape that some did not even start and had to be jump started. There is no rubber on the tires, several had to be pumped up on the 10 mile ride to the shack. The couple that was with us paid for and reserved a double but they had over booked and gave them a single. Asking for a cusion to sit on so as not to sit on the metal bars and was given a stack of newspapers.

The shack was another story there were holes in the boards on the floors and steps, We could only hope we did not fall threw the floors. There is nothing to drink here also but dirty water in a jug.

Ziplines are unsafe cables running from tree to tree with rubberbands to stop you. You have to climb a cable ladder with sticks for steps and get to the top of a tree with a little platform that you have to squeeze onto with a guide. The people waiting to go yet have to hold the ladder for you. As all of the group was waiting at the bottom of the first zipline the guide came down the cable and as he hit the rubber band stop his harness broke. I just really wonder what the rest are like. One of the ziplines was even so loose that you had to jump off and away from the platform so you would not hit the rocks below. You had to walk across slippery wet platforms that were crooked and falling in the marsh below. This entire thing is very physically demanding, and we are in fairly good shape.

The cenote to go swimming in was really a neat experience except for the fact that you had to climb down approximately a 30 foot slippery mud covered ladder, once again made out of sticks wrapped in sand paper. When at the pool I refused to get in, I saw how the rest of the equipment was with this company and was not getting in the water with electrical cables and lights.

The ride back on the ATV's was just as bad if not worse than the ride out, ATV having to be jump started, tires going flat.

I will say we reported this to the rep that sold us the tour, who also told us this was a new business. I came home and checked out the website. I had to double check to see if this was even the same place we went. Guess what! it is the same. This website is not, what you will get on your tour. I don't know where some of these picures were taken but, these are not the ATV's you ride, The shack in the pictures may have been the same one sometime ago. I never even saw half of the stuff they show on their web site.
The guides were great and very helpful it is not their fault the equipment is poor, to say the least.

I would not recommend this tour to anyone.
