“Perfect beach”

Cabanas Paraiso

My boyfriend and I visited Cabanas Paraiso from May 12th till May 15th. When we got in Tulum on the 12th, we didn't bother making reservations in advance, I figured that it would't be busy since it was low season...Well, I was wrong! After spending about an hour going from cabana to cabana in a taxi, everywhere was full. We were gonna give one last try, which turned out to be Cabanas Paraiso. We were REALLY happy to find that place. First, the beach is georgous, the concept is very nice, very nicely decorated in the bar area, at night they light up torches everywhere and play very good lounge music.
We ate next door, at Don Cafeto, BEST meals ever! It's just a short walk on the beach, and it's well worth it! Also, the drinks are alot cheaper there than at the Paraiso, so we enjoyed that too!
We walked to the ruins, about 15 minutes. If you can, go on Sunday, it's free admission. We took a guided tour, it was well worth it too. I had been to the ruins before, but the guided tour made a big diffrence.
We also went out to Aqua Bar down town one night and got cheap beer and good music. If you have a chance, try the garlic shrimps at Don Cafeto down town Tulum...Best ones I ever had!

“Worst Room - Best Beach”

Starting off on a positive note - the beach rocks!
Although, thought it is ridiculous to pay for a chair on the beach if you are staying at their hotel...
Room was filthy - dirty, holes in walls, bad smells, etc. Woke up one morning at 7am to construction on the room next door, water turned off all day. I paid for a hot shower, toilet etc. Front desk not helpful or considerate. Will never stay here again!!

“Great Beach - Not so Great Hotel”

We stayed at Zamas down the road and went to El Paraiso every day to sit on their beach. The beach is outstanding at Paraiso and the beach bar is also really nice...good food and drinks and moderate prices. They do charge you $2.50 a person to use their beach chairs, though. Although we didn't stay there, I did look at their hotel and I thought it looked pretty run-down and unappealing....like the Bates Motel or something. I never did find out where the "cabanas" were, although the ones I saw that were nearby did not look at all appealing (they were dark, closed in and run-down looking).

If their public bathroom (in the restaurant) is any indication of the rest of the hotel, it doesn't look promising. The sink was broken, there was no soap, it smelled and it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in awhile. Generally neglected.

My advice is to find a nicer place to stay (there are plenty of nice cabanas in the area including Zamas, Copal, Azulik, Cabanas Las Conchita, Maya Tulum) that are a short cab ride from Paraiso. Then, you can easily catch a cab to Paraiso and sit on their beach. That's what we did every day during our vacation and it was great. It really is the nicest beach that we saw in Tulum when we were there and it's a great swimming beach (not rocky).

I've included a bunch of photos of the beach and beach bar so you can see how nice it is.

Paraiso was dammaged by Wilma but is recovering very well. We were staying in Playa Del Carmen and went there for a day on the beach. It is a beautiful place. The beach is long and water shallow. We enjoyed drinks and a wonderful lunch. Can't speak of the state of the hotel rooms. But everything else was great. We plan to return.

“Paraiso Tulum is Inexcusable...”

Cabanas Paraiso

Who charges for beach chairs where you are staying??? I've gone to beaches where they charge outsiders, but not guests. The day after our arrival we had breakfast and then walked over to the beach. Some guy comes out of nowwhere and demands that we pay. After dinner I approached the owner for a refund, and he refused. The next day we ended up parking our beach blackets at the hostel next door. I'll never go back to "Paraiso"..
