“Oasis vs. Casa Schuck”
We stayed at both these properties in May - while they're different price points, we thought it might be useful to provide a comparison as they were listed ast #1 and #2 in popularity on this site. (see separate review for Casa Schuck).
Upon arrival, the staff at Oasis immediately whisked us to our room and took care of our car. They have an arrangement with a parking lot about 6 blocks away and will valet your car (cost is presumably included in price of room)
With only 4 rooms, it was easy to feel like we were guests in someone’s home. The entire place was very well maintained and all the staff was very eager to assist, without being servile. We had cushy towels and robes, soft linens, and downy comforter and pillows.
We had the Bedouin room on our first night. It was somewhat dim as the only windows were a set of doors that opened onto to the courtyard in the front (entrance) and another set that opened to the stone wall water fountain. This fountain wall, while aesthetically quite pleasant, would become the only source of noise that disturbed us during our stay.
The window of the loud and inconsiderate neighbor opened up to the same stone fountain. Their arguing and their television seemed to blare throughout. Even if we closed our windows, the echoes were incredibly annoying and ruined what could have been a true ‘Oasis’ of tranquility.
We changed to the Nomad room the next evening. The space (the same size as the two rooms below put together) and the light, are well worth the difference in price (at the time USD80 more for the Nomad room than for any of the other 3 rooms in the building). While the noise from the neighbors was slightly less, we still noticed it. Obviously, the staff had mentioned we were disturbed by their noise, because we even heard the same guests say, “I don’t care if I disturb them”.
Breakfast is served anywhere you want on the property. They have a lovely terrace with a view of the tops of all the main churches in the area. Food itself fresh and very good and good selection of options.
There is a small library/sitting room, but they don’t have many DVDs/CDs or tapes to choose from (there is a DVD player in each room). Bring your own DVD/CDs.
It would be in the interest of the property to ask guests to respect the tranquility of the place and advise all guests upon check-in to keep their voices and televisions down in consideration of other guests – you’d do the same in your home.
