“Impressed by Oasis”

Oasis

Jul 18, 2008

I just got back from San Miguel De Allende and couldn't wait to post a review of Oasis. I have stayed in hotels (big and small) all over Mexico and I am often disappointed. I am impressed by Oasis. The owners (a couple from Texas) have put so much attention into the details of this little hotel from the 1000 thread count linens to the unique soothing motif of the rooms. This hotel really has all the modern conveniences and does not make you feel like you are roughing it. It is true to its claim of luxury. The location is on a small little street in the heart of SMA. The roof top lounge gives you an incredible view of SMA's different churches and other uniques structures. We can't wait to go back.

“Our new favorite hotel”

Oasis

5 of 5 stars
San Antonio, Texas
Jul 12, 2008

The hotel Oasis far surpassed all our expectations for a small luxury hotel experience. As soon as we stepped through the door we knew we had found something special. This was not our first trip to San Miguel and to be honest our past accommodations at other recommended hotels have left us wanting. It’s easy to see why the Oasis receives such great praise. We loved the look and feel of the hotel. It was luxurious with a cozy feel at the same time, and the entire hotel is absolutely gorgeous. The staff were friendly and constantly went the extra mile pampering us during our entire stay. The bed was so comfortable it was hard to get out of every morning, but the breakfast helped. Delicious! The chilaquiles were the best I've ever had. We ate so much every morning that we rarely needed to eat lunch. Good thing this is a walking town. The extra calories never showed up. And the location of the Oasis couldn't be better. It's just a minutes walk from the town center with a great view of the surrounding churches from the roof-top terrace. In the afternoons there were always complimentary refreshment waiting for us in our rooms, the perfect end to an afternoon of shopping around town. The owner, Nancy, and the staff really know the town and made great recommendations, even going so far as to secure certain tables at the restaurants they recommend. San Miguel has always been one of our favorite destinations…thanks to the Oasis, San Miguel has gotten even better.

“Oasis vs. Casa Schuck”

Oasis

4 of 5 stars
Mexico City

We stayed at both these properties in May - while they're different price points, we thought it might be useful to provide a comparison as they were listed ast #1 and #2 in popularity on this site. (see separate review for Casa Schuck).

Upon arrival, the staff at Oasis immediately whisked us to our room and took care of our car. They have an arrangement with a parking lot about 6 blocks away and will valet your car (cost is presumably included in price of room)

With only 4 rooms, it was easy to feel like we were guests in someone’s home. The entire place was very well maintained and all the staff was very eager to assist, without being servile. We had cushy towels and robes, soft linens, and downy comforter and pillows.

We had the Bedouin room on our first night. It was somewhat dim as the only windows were a set of doors that opened onto to the courtyard in the front (entrance) and another set that opened to the stone wall water fountain. This fountain wall, while aesthetically quite pleasant, would become the only source of noise that disturbed us during our stay.

The window of the loud and inconsiderate neighbor opened up to the same stone fountain. Their arguing and their television seemed to blare throughout. Even if we closed our windows, the echoes were incredibly annoying and ruined what could have been a true ‘Oasis’ of tranquility.

We changed to the Nomad room the next evening. The space (the same size as the two rooms below put together) and the light, are well worth the difference in price (at the time USD80 more for the Nomad room than for any of the other 3 rooms in the building). While the noise from the neighbors was slightly less, we still noticed it. Obviously, the staff had mentioned we were disturbed by their noise, because we even heard the same guests say, “I don’t care if I disturb them”.

Breakfast is served anywhere you want on the property. They have a lovely terrace with a view of the tops of all the main churches in the area. Food itself fresh and very good and good selection of options.

There is a small library/sitting room, but they don’t have many DVDs/CDs or tapes to choose from (there is a DVD player in each room). Bring your own DVD/CDs.

It would be in the interest of the property to ask guests to respect the tranquility of the place and advise all guests upon check-in to keep their voices and televisions down in consideration of other guests – you’d do the same in your home.

“fabulous stay at the oasis”

The Oasis as its name sake depicts, was indeed a truism. After staying at another establishment one night earlier, it was a relief to find centrally located accommodations that were extremely attractive, exceptionally clean and comfortable, and a staff that was so helpful and friendly, that we considered (for a moment) stuffing them in our luggage and taking them home with us.

The room was quiet, well appointed, and the trickle of the water down the wall outside the window was relaxing. The hotel was intimate and our adjoining guests were wonderfull. One could not help but make friends under such circumstances.

We had encountered an issue that had nothing to do with the hotel, and Nancy, the owner, without question, stepped right in and resolved that issue. Now that was going above and beyond!

The next time in San Miguel de Allende, there is no question as to where we will be staying.

We could not have stayed at a better hotel or B&B. The beautifully appointed bedrooms, the spectacular rooftop patio, the cozy living room, the inviting courtyard and dining room, and the tranquil waterfall just off the rooms provided an exquisite ambience for our stay. The staff is among the best in the hospitality industry. Kudos to Martin and his team for pampering well done!
