“Noisy and Overpriced”

Marinaterra Resort & Beach Club

Jan 14, 2008

I stayed here a few days before Christmas after staying at the Paradiso Resort . For the price the Marinaterra is a huge disappointment. It should cost about $50 a night instead of $110+. Don't let the exterior appearance fool you, the rooms are outdated, the kitchenette is dingy, the hot tub was broken when we were there, and the noise from the bar across the street made for a restless night of sleep. It is however a convenient location in town, especially if you are going out on one of the boat trips in the morning-but everything is convenient in San Carlos! We had the famed breakfast brunch downstairs. It was good, but nothing to write home about. Again for the price-$15pp- I would rather have had breakfast across the street at the coffee shop which by the way has great coffee!

“Nice change from other Mexico resorts”

We were looking for a place to get away for a short escape. We were on the 6th floor with a very nice view of the marina and enjoyed nice sunsets. The room was worn but fairly clean for Mexico standards. The staff was very nice, friendly and helped us rent a car from Budget. $53 a day. Fish tacos at Bannanas were great!! The water was clear, snorkeling was very good down at the hotels beach club, watch out for the small jellyfish along the left edge of the bay. Another great snorkeling was just north on the other side of the mountain. The locals were nice and made us feel safe. We drove all the way north on the road and found alot of resorts that looked defunked from the 60s or 70s cool to see but we were glad we stayed where we did. The road ended at what was called fishermans village. This place was right out of a the hills have eyes B rated movie. Guaymas was just like you would expect third world Mexico to be , my wife would not get out of the car. I thought it was interesting and will go back without her and explore. I was told by a friend who visited in the 70s that the movie catch22 was filmed at the airport here . All in all I think San Carlos is a sleeper that is about to see a second boom, I will be back!

“very nice hotel”

Marinaterra Resort & Beach Club

I have stayed here at least 12 times in the past two years. The rooms on the Marina side have incredible rooms. If you are on the blvd. side (cheaper) ask for a high floor and you will have a good view. I have never had a problem with staff, cleanliness, food or anything. Its a very friendly hotel which caters a lot to tour groups and businessmen. There are two pools one at the hotel and the other at the beach club. Small bar at the marina level. San Carlos is a small town so not much to do but relax, go boating or scuba diving. Taking the city bus into Guyamas is a kick for the adventuresome. There are small shops and restaraunts along the front side of the hotel or you can hop a bus right in front if you want to get farther into town. Its a very nice hotel with a pleasant staff and in a very relaxing a picturesque setting.

“Couples trip this hotel is poor overall”

We were there early June, the rooms are big and top rooms have great views. The AC works ok, but makes a ton of noice, no roches on our trip though that was nice. We did Trash the room like I never have before and the cleaning crew was awsome, we tipped our cleaning lady a hughe load of cash, she was happy. Our room was the cheapes room available, with a great view, but the hot tub did not work. Our closet door was falling, but we didn't need it. We arrived Friday and departed Sunday, The pool boy was extreamly rude!!! My brother and I walked down to the pool with some beersand he called security because we brought our beer down, we asked him if we could just finish what we had, but they were extreamly rude. We did let management know about the incident, but they could have cared less. We decide to eat in other hotels, and spend our money elsewhere. Had a great time kayaking and snorkling at other resorts. This hotel does NOT have a good beach area, you must drive to the resort beach area and even then we could not use the beach area since it had been rented out for weddings all weekend long. Cleaning our rooms was excellent, price is OK, Service over all poor, we partied at a local bar, which was ok, but everybody was stearing at THE AMERICANS. Looks like they never seen people dance. Its a small town, everything is far, taxies suck in price and to find one. San Carlos is a jewel, but its Hotels and activities are poor in comparison to what it has to offer in its nature.

I would not return to this hotel, I'm still looking for a good hotel in San Carlos and I have stayed at 3 different ones now. Check-in is long, and there is not much to do if you do not have outdoors activities planned. We went to Plaza San Carlos and rented quads, kayacks, snorkle gear, eate great food, beers, we did most of our swimming and outdoors activities on the Paridiso Resort area, since they have great small islands to kayack, a little beer bungalo, lagoon, and a rental shop. I'd rater stay at the paradiso, more activities , but alot more run down. Best bang for my buck is still the paradiso. There is more going on at the Plaza San Carlos.

“Party On”

Marinaterra Resort & Beach Club

Room was fine as was the cantina but the disco club downstairs and outside goes to 2:30 to 3:00am on some Thursdays and all Friday Saturdays. Then the locals party in their trucks with thumping stereos another hour or two in the vacant lot by the marina. Not enough cervesa in town to sleep through that. Would not go back on weekends and heard the same from other guests. Management couldn't care less.
