“Couples trip this hotel is poor overall”

We were there early June, the rooms are big and top rooms have great views. The AC works ok, but makes a ton of noice, no roches on our trip though that was nice. We did Trash the room like I never have before and the cleaning crew was awsome, we tipped our cleaning lady a hughe load of cash, she was happy. Our room was the cheapes room available, with a great view, but the hot tub did not work. Our closet door was falling, but we didn't need it. We arrived Friday and departed Sunday, The pool boy was extreamly rude!!! My brother and I walked down to the pool with some beersand he called security because we brought our beer down, we asked him if we could just finish what we had, but they were extreamly rude. We did let management know about the incident, but they could have cared less. We decide to eat in other hotels, and spend our money elsewhere. Had a great time kayaking and snorkling at other resorts. This hotel does NOT have a good beach area, you must drive to the resort beach area and even then we could not use the beach area since it had been rented out for weddings all weekend long. Cleaning our rooms was excellent, price is OK, Service over all poor, we partied at a local bar, which was ok, but everybody was stearing at THE AMERICANS. Looks like they never seen people dance. Its a small town, everything is far, taxies suck in price and to find one. San Carlos is a jewel, but its Hotels and activities are poor in comparison to what it has to offer in its nature.

I would not return to this hotel, I'm still looking for a good hotel in San Carlos and I have stayed at 3 different ones now. Check-in is long, and there is not much to do if you do not have outdoors activities planned. We went to Plaza San Carlos and rented quads, kayacks, snorkle gear, eate great food, beers, we did most of our swimming and outdoors activities on the Paridiso Resort area, since they have great small islands to kayack, a little beer bungalo, lagoon, and a rental shop. I'd rater stay at the paradiso, more activities , but alot more run down. Best bang for my buck is still the paradiso. There is more going on at the Plaza San Carlos.

“Party On”

Marinaterra Resort & Beach Club

Room was fine as was the cantina but the disco club downstairs and outside goes to 2:30 to 3:00am on some Thursdays and all Friday Saturdays. Then the locals party in their trucks with thumping stereos another hour or two in the vacant lot by the marina. Not enough cervesa in town to sleep through that. Would not go back on weekends and heard the same from other guests. Management couldn't care less.

“LOVED marinaterra!!”

Marinaterra Resort & Beach Club

I would just like to tell everybody that when i went to marinaterra with my boyfriend and his family this past june, we had NO problems!! service was EXCELLENT, i must say! The lady at the front desk actually cut us a big deal on our room rates, so all i have to say is, make the right friends. If you're rude, of course people are going to be rude back! The views were beautiful, snorkeling was beautiful, however we did have a jelly fish attack, so WEAR SOME SORT OF SHIRT, WET SUIT, ANYTHING just make sure you dont have a ton of skin exposed. The restaurants (especially the bartenders at the restaurant below the pool) were great. Breakfast buffet was a little expensive, but there was a great coffee shop across the street, with great food. There are many shops, restaurants and bars, dive shops, etc. within walking distance. The beach was rocky at the shore line, but otherwise covered in rockless sands, and a great bar near there as well. The rooms were very large, and ALWAYS cleaned, i saw 1 cockroach while i was there but as said before, and i couldn't agree more, we WERE in MEXICO!! (duh!!) i would definately recommend marinaterra to anyone who is looking. Our stay was excellent.

“Mediocre”

Marinaterra Resort & Beach Club

2 of 5 stars
Phoenix, AZ

My husband and I and another couple, both in our late 20s, drove from Phoenix to San Carlos the last week of September. We got the place through the in-laws timeshare (a bonus trip), so it was cheap, so we couldn’t turn it down. This time of year is definitely out of season, a few Mexican families, a few American families/couples, which is fine, but it was dead, so it was boring. Not much to do – you need to drive everywhere mostly, and the taxi cabs take forever if you call, and are expensive. Very few people around. Didn’t find a lot to do either. San Carlos is definitely a place for ultimate relaxation, not for the adventurer.

The hotel itself was mediocre. Rooms were big, which was nice, but there were cockroaches in the bathroom. I was afraid to go in there because they’d come up through the drain. AC worked great though. Service was fine. Food wasn’t excellent but there was this one little restaurant below the pool area that was decent. The pool bottom was slimy, but we got great service at the pool – no one was there though, so they had no one else to wait on.

We did get the “golf cart” ride to the beach every day though, which was no problem. Beach was rocky though, not ideal for laying out on the sand or swimming. The pool at the club by the beach wasn’t too bad….again, kinda slimy though. It was busy on the one Sunday we were there.

As far as food goes, Tequilas was good – ask for Carlos the bartender, he was fantastic. Bananas was pretty good too – great view and food. Did a 6 hour sport fish trip with Gary’s – Great staff, good time out in the water, and very very helpful.

Kayaking is fun also, so if you do go, I’d recommend it. But snorkeling, FORGET IT. There are these little tiny jelly fish in the water that explode when they hit your skin – it’s weird, you hear popping noises under the water. Stings like nothing else. Horrible experience. But I do hear the scuba diving is excellent. In fact we saw photos from a group that goes down there regularly just for that.

I could see where there is the potential for San Carlos to be a big resort town, but there is definitely a lot of work to be done. I would probably not stay at that hotel again. In fact, I’d probably rent a house if I went back there.

“The Phoenix guy is full of it...”

Marinaterra Resort & Beach Club

This place is fine. I have been there several times. No cockroaches, the air conditioner worked, there was fresh bottled water in the room and I trusted the safe I put my valuables in.
The guy at the coffee shop across the street opened early for us to have breakfast every day we were there...
Fun places to go within walking distance.. (Tequilas!)
It's Mexico... what did you expect?
