After having read a dozen reviews and then going through a range of emotions my wife booked this all inclusive trip for us. And then we kept checking the reviews over and over until we were noxious.
Here goes!
We got the whole package, all taxes in for two out of Vancouver, BC for $2400cdn.
The bottom line is the stay was great. I believe that if you are a pretty level headed and decent person(s) you will enjoy this great vacation. Having said that, if you are a prima-donna and high maintenance whiner...you won't. It really is that simple. So at this point if you don't already know which you are: then book this trip if you can afford it and discover what kind of person your friends, family and coworkers have to put up with each and every day of your life and if they have purchased this trip for you, you should take it as a hint that they're looking forward to a week without you!
The airplane: Sunquest paid for our Westjet inflight food as WJet don't supply any food on their flights, that was decent.
The airport: Upon arrival you'll exit onto the tarmat and walk a short ways into the terminal and collect your luggage and carry it through to the modern, fullsize buses out front. Don't stop until you're outside and follow your agent's signs.
The bus: You'll travel @ 35mins on the bus and have your access bracelets put on your wrist while you watch a local video.
You'll be asked to consider tipping the bus driver for loading your luggage (apparently, not really his job..). Contrary to what Sunquest tell you, you don't need to go to the "mandatory" meeting the next morning at 10am, just check in with your rep at some point during the week.
The hotel: Is brand new, really big and has a unique smell that we got used to after a while. I suspect it's dampness throughout the lobby and some rooms due to the very open concept of the construction.
The rooms: New and nice...good water pressure, tv (some english channels), hairdryer, barfridge(stocked with pop, water, corona---which they topped up twice during our stay but, not being alcholics, didn't require complete restocking).
We kept all important documents/valuables in our safe at all times and did not worry a bit. We had our room made up three times during our stay and left $2usd out for the maid on the pillow.
The staff: Always friendly, always aiming to please and I'd dare you to find better in Canada or USA.
The food: The selection was pletiful. There were some items that could have been hotter and some that could have been all together tastier but all in all, the food was quite good and I didn't hear anyone complain or, starve during their trip. The pasta is not the greatest but we did eat fish every day which was a nice change for us. And, people are funny, if you don't like mango in Canada why do you assume it should taste good in Mexico?
We like salads and fruits and found that we actually ate healthier there then at home.
There are three restarants you can book in the morning for later that same day but the booking opens at 8am -10am and each was full by 9 am every day.
We managed one meal at the Steakhouse. The steak was fattier than we're used to but everything else about the evening was great. To all evening meals (booked or at the main buffet) you may wish to bring @ $1-5 to tip the waiters as there is seated service. As we were mainly in and out we usually didn't but always considered it.
The bars: Drinks are plentiful and included at all of the many bars around the place.
The pools: The pools up top have the silly water activities and music throughout the day while the pools by the ocean are more tranquil (with nicer views). Water was cool enough to be refreshing but not too cold. Lot's of patio chairs for sunbathing and enjoying a drink.
The beach: Is nice to dunk yourself in but because of the waves can't really swim out too far. Because you're in a second-world nation there are @ dozen sales people selling everything from necklaces to hats and everything inbetween. Just get used to saying "no thank you" and they'll politely keep walking. Again, this shouldn't be an insurmountable problem. There are beach front chairs there as well.
The views include the occasional cruise ship and jet skiing (which we did for $55usd for 45mins---two of us on one machine), parasailing, glass bottom boats can all be purchased from the water front.
Bring US dollars as even the local buses accept usd---you won't need pesos.
Around the area: We did the canopy tour offered through Sunquest for $88 each and enjoyed the day. The trip out to the adventure camp was an unexpected hour and 15 mins drive but was ultimately worth it.
We bused to Cabo san Lucas for the day and walked back on the beach. You will get pestered to death on the marina boardwalk in town but just say "no thanks" and the people are respectful. Bartering is fun for both sides and the people appreciate the hangling. They have great senses of humour and command of english.
Evening shows: The ones we saw were quite enjoyable
Enjoy your trip, it will be what you make of it!
