I stayed at the Pescador over spring break in March and upgrade to the "suit" room. I read these reviews before booking and was a little leery, here is my review.... The Good: Let me start by saying it's in a great location! 5 minute walk to downtown clubs, bars, restaruants, etc. and 15 minute walk to the beach. No need to cab anywhere. It had a internet cafe right next door. Minimal security so no problem bringing women back. I did not get the "rainbow" feeling that others got. Did not find any cockroaches, all the doors locked and the staff was pretty friendly. Not many Americans at the place though, only us and some other guys partying from Oakland. The Bad: Pubes everywhere! yes on the toilet seat, in the shower, the bed (we took the comforter off and threw it in the closet), pillows, etc. only about 25% of the lights worked, no shower curtain so the bathroom got flooded when you took a shower (It wasn't uncommon to see the guys from Oakland bathing and shampooing their hair in the swimming pool and my roommate didn't shower for the 3 days we were there), the view from the master bedroom was of hazardous waste barrels, and when we clogged the toilet and went to the lobby to let them know, we were handed a plunger. All and all, the place is definitely a value play vs staying at one of the bigger ones along the ocean. If you don't plan on staying in your room much and your main goal is getting out site seeing, partying, etc. then this may be a good place for you.
