“good place to sunbathe”

Fiesta Americana Grand Los Cabos

3 of 5 stars
Los Angeles

We stayed at the Fiesta Americana as members of the Hilton Grand Vacations Club in June '08. Overall, we had an excellent trip but, as mentioned in other reviews, I too had some complaints.

Pros:
- Beautiful beach with lots of places to sit/lay
- Beautiful pool with lots of places to sit/lay
- Perfect weather
- Attentive, friendly service
- Nice spa services
- Romantic live guitar around a fire pit at night
- Comfortable rooms, nice bathrooms

Cons:
- Mediocre food, significantly overpriced. We tried the fancy restaurant (Rosato) once and I cannot recommend it: bad food, high prices ($50+ pp without liquor/wine), average decor, nice view though. It is shielded from public view I think because it is always empty. The pool/beach-side restaurant (Pennisula) is better and less expensive, although the dinner menu is somewhat limited. Best bet for lunch though. Vina del Mar becomes the default choice for dinner. If possible, avoid the themed nights: "Mexican Night" ended up being our most expensive meal ($150 total for 2) for what was essentially a taco bar. After the first day, we skipped the disappointing breakfast buffet ($35 pp) and instead bought fruit, yogurt, and pastries from the "Super Deli" adjacent to the gift shop (about 40 ft from the buffet) for about $2.50 pp (Yes, $5 instead of $75 for what was EXACTLY the same food minus refried beans and eggs). If you have a car, Costco is probably your best bet. (Cabo restaurants were also somewhat disappointing).

- Sand on the beach is crumbled granite and therefore quite coarse and sharp. Bring aquasocks.

- Beach is steep and strewn with large jagged boulders and rock outcroppings. This combined with large surf creates potentially lethal swimming condition. Keep your kids out of the water.

Your satisfaction with this resort will largely depend on what you are expecting and what you want to do. If you seek gourmet (or even good) food, look elsewhere. If you just want a nice place to lay in the sun and listen to the waves break, this is it.

“My Home Resort”

Fiesta Americana Grand Los Cabos

This is our home resort and I was somewhat disappointed. We booked a 1-bedroom suite through Fiesta Americana. We had to change units after the first night because the first unit didn't have all the appliances and they didn't have another unit available until the next day. The second unit had a lockout door between rooms and the person in the adjoining room was a smoker. We tried our best to block the smoke from coming through by stuffing towels all around the door. I think we managed to block about 80 to 90% of the smoke. The units are very spacious. Both my wife and I noticed that the resort in general wasn't being taken care of the way we think it should be. We let management and Fiesta Americana in general know, but I'm not sure what good it did. The restaurants are very good with excellent food. We particularly liked the poolside restaurant. The spa is clean, quiet, peaceful and satisfying. The resort is about 10 minutes to downtown Cabo San Lucas and about 20 minutes to San Jose del Cabo. You should rent a car to get around. I would give this resort 4 stars out of a possible 5.

“Nice Mexican Resort”

Fiesta Americana Grand Los Cabos

4 of 5 stars
Washington, DC
May 22, 2008

This was the first and only visit we made to Cabo. So I can't compare this to other Cabo hotels, however I have stayed in Cancun & Playa Del Carmen so I'll compare this to those properties. I would say this is above average, but there are better (5-star) properties out there. Compared to resorts in the States, the customer service is a little lacking, but they make up for it with beautiful ocean views and lots of marble!!!! The food is above average for Mexico, and the prices reflect that fact. Expect to pay 2-3 times more than an average dinner out in the States. Drinks were good, bartenders did make stiff drinks, but again, the "customer service" was a little lacking. Stayed in a club level room which was closer to the pool, nice view from patio. I think it was worth the extra cost, there is a breakfast in the club lounge every morning and there is a seperate club level concierge, which did not involve the time-share spiel!!!! Also, free open bar in the evening. And the seperate pool for a little bit of quiet relaxation. Overall, it was a nice property to relax for a week, but if I ever go back to Cabo would probably try somewhere else. It was not compelling enough to warrant a automatic return visit.

“Amazing”

Fiesta Americana Grand Los Cabos

5 of 5 stars
Burlington
May 20, 2008

I have a tough time believing anyone could be disappointed with this hotel. Our room was large, new, quite, with a fantastic view of the pools and ocean. Bathroom was large, clean with tub and shower.
Pools were clean with chairs everywhere for tanning. Shade was also abundant for that afternoon nap. Swim-up bar was very festive. Service was awesome. Beach towels were everywhere.
Incredible food and atmosphere in the restaurants. Service was prompt and friendly. Flavours were outstanding from breakfast to dinner.
It might not be the place for you if you're on a shoe string budget. I could not complain about the prices at such a fantastic resort.
Two thumbs up!

What a trip! Resort is absolutely lovely, the staff is gracious and accommodating. View from our room was spectacular! There are several spots right there at the hotel serving food and drinks all day long. It's not necessary to even leave the property if you'd rather not. I"d return in a heartbeat!
