We stayed at the Westin for 7 days in July.... it was a great trip. The rooms are spacious, clean and quite. The resort is big with 5 pools to choose from. The staff is very attentive and helpful.. always saying hello and asking if you need anything. By the 3rd day everyone knew our name. The food and drinks at the resort are very good.... but you will pay resort prices.
If there is a downside to the Westin it is the cost of everything. The breakfast buffet is $27 per person. Lunch averages about $30 per person. The dinner buffets average about $40-$60 per person. There is a 2 for 1 happy hour from 5 to 6... in my opinion it should be from 3 to 7... but that's just me. The spa can also be costly. But most spas are.
While I recommend the Westin I do make these recommendations:
1. Rent a car. Parking is free at the Westin and cabs to and from Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo can run you anywhere from $50 to $120 round trip. Navagating between the 2 towns is pretty simple (it's 1 main road). Plus the car rentals in Los cabo are pretty reasonable.
2. Hit the Mega store. It's at the circle when you leave the highway from the airport. The mega store is like a super wal-mart. It has everything you could need. We bought some Styrofoam coolers and loaded it up with beer and water for the week. Why by a bottle of water at the resort for $3 when you can by 9 for less. It helped us keep our costs down.
3. While the restaurants at the Westin are good (Try the one at the Grand Regina) there are some really great restaurants around Los Cabo.
I recommend the following:
Auga (at the One and Only Palmilla) its $$$$
French Riviera (along the corridor) its $$$$
La Panga Antigua (2 locations - both are good) $$$
Mi Casa (in los cabo) $$$
Frida (in pueblo bonito sunset beach) $$$$
4. Avoid the Time Share Presentations... at all Costs! You will get hit with offers to see a 90 minute presentation in exchange for something free or discounted. They offer everything from free wave runner rentals to dinners to discounts on your car rentals to you name it. It starts the minute you leave customs at the airport and doesn't really end until you leave. My advice... if you are not interested in purchasing a timeshare then don't waste your time. While the offers are very enticing... it is very high pressure sales.
There are three places that you will get hit up for time shares:
1. At the airport. Once you leave customs you enter a room with 50 guys all trying to push things on you. They are all trying to push timeshares. Just say no thank you and make a b-line for the exit.
2. At the car rental. This one is tough because they will offer you discounts of 50% or more on your rental to see the time sales presentation. Its up to you... This is where I got suckered on my first trip to cabo... but I would skip it.
3. At the hotel. When you book activities like a cruise to the arch, I recommend doing the Cabo Blue cruise... it's a 2 1/2 hour booze cruise... and a lot of fun... the sales guy will then offer you different discounts or even a 4 day 3 night free trip back to cabo to see the sales presentation.
This was my third trip to Los Cabos and my second stay at the Westin. It's a great place. Remember avoid the timeshare presentations and bring the sunscreen.
