“Not So Hot”

Park Royal Los Cabos

3 of 5 stars

Just returned from one week - first time in San Jose del Cabo, and we stayed at Park Royal. If you have stayed in a 5 star at one point, and then you go here...be prepared for a let-down!. The accomodation here is simply adequate. The first night we were there - we had bought a Trial package from Royal Holidays when we were there last year in Zhituatenajo - the "staff" invited us to a welcome event. They said there would be drinks and food etc. Well, we arrived, and were greeted, and got margaritas...and then the food arrived on a square styrofoam plate with cut-up ham and cheese sandwiches on it, a devilled egg, deep-fried egg roll, and a few other items that neither my husband or I ate. The whole thing was so poorly put together it was nothing short of laughable. The next morning we attended the mandatory talk about signing up for the whole meal deal - and I felt sorry for Alain, actually...because, this place was so pathetic, how could he use this as a basis for selling and saying you have this to look forward to if you sign up!!! (He did get us a free cab ride from the airport though...however, that cost me a long distance tel. call)If you book your stay here, and we did so, because we booked at the last minute and didn't have anything left to choose from...the good things about the trip. We walked everywhere. It is close to the Mega Store (watch out for the guys in the orange shirts who are willing to help you, but just really want to get you to a time share talk). We made breakfast everyday - but they had to come in and fix our little two burner stove-top. We had to ask for a large cutting knife and pepper (which we never got) - and a hairdryer - you have to ask for that - oh, and our TV didn't work. But they came in and fixed that too. It was at such a wierd angle that we had to both sit close together on the bed so that we could see it, but it was so far up the wall, our necks hurt after a while, so that was never a big past time. We read a lot! Anyway, we sat by the pool in the morning and read, and the breeze in San Jose is delightful. No humidity! We met some nice people, and they all had similar comments about the hotel. But we sort of laughed about it, and talked about our plans for the day. You can walk along the beach, into town, take a tour into Cabo, and go out on a glass bottomed boat and see the sights. Go to Hangman's Restaurant in town...a must...unique and fun. Restaurants not to miss are Rusty Putter, Buen Appetito, Tropicana in town, and even take the chance of having a tamale from a gal who sells them by the church in town. We will go back because it is closer for us, and the town is great, but we will stay at a much nicer place. Mexico is all about the hot weather, the cold beers, and everyone being your friend. It was wonderful to get away, as it always is, but don't set your sights too high if you plan to stay at Park Royal.

“Dissatisfied”

Park Royal Los Cabos

Mar 22, 2007

I will start with the positives, the restaurant and bar staff were great, the pool was clean and was consistent with a silver crown resort (RCI rating), the maid service was also excellent, the grounds are well kept, and the consierge clerk was also most accomodating in helping us get the best deals on local activities.

I was dissatisfied overall with my stay at the Park Royal Los Cabos. The manager was nasty and not accomodating at all. I called several times ahead of my stay and requested the newer remodelled unit, as well as that the two units that I booked be side by side. I also verified that there would be a pull out sofa in the living room. I was assured all the units have pull out sofa's. Upon arrival, our rooms weren't even in the same building and the unit was definitely not remodelled. As well as the bed was removed from our pull out sofa and was replaced with a piece of plywood. I still felt optimistic at this point and requested a change of rooms. Not possible the first week but likely in our second week. Guess what the only way they would move us is if we gave up our one-bedroom unit and would accept a studio unit. Not likely as I had 5 of us in the room (which is why i needed the pull out couch). All they offered us was a couch cushion that my children could sleep on on the floor if they wished.

We sat in their time share presentation with a promise to have 2 day car rental free or a day deep sea fishing -- guess what -- the catch was that you had to purchase the time share to get the bonus.

Our fridge door would not shut and we complained every day as our food was not cold and there was a puddle of water on the floor every day. Maintenance would not fix it, so we had to slam the door and kick the bottom of the fridge to seal it. The kitchen was poorly stocked, furniture was wobbly and near broken. The unit was outdated and not visually appealing. It certainly did not look anything like the web sites I located. I would not recommend this resort to anyone.

“very pleasent golf course location”

Park Royal Los Cabos

The Park royal is a non-amenity type hotel with very pleasent suits and NOT located in front of a beach. Its sort of like going to a condo in Palm Springs. The rooms are clean-roomy-pleasent (other than the occational "no hot water in the shower" Its primarely a vacation spot for Mexicans than north americans. The little restarant is very pleasent and the staff delightfull. This location is more for someone who has been to san jose del cabo and knows how to get around. A car is a must. you can walk to downtown san jose in about 20-25 minutes and its very pleasent by the malecon. San Jose is infinitly more quaint than cabo san lucas so I enjoyed this location. Not to close to restaurants and good if you enjoy golf. overall a pleasent yet not outstanding experience
