Just returned from one week - first time in San Jose del Cabo, and we stayed at Park Royal. If you have stayed in a 5 star at one point, and then you go here...be prepared for a let-down!. The accomodation here is simply adequate. The first night we were there - we had bought a Trial package from Royal Holidays when we were there last year in Zhituatenajo - the "staff" invited us to a welcome event. They said there would be drinks and food etc. Well, we arrived, and were greeted, and got margaritas...and then the food arrived on a square styrofoam plate with cut-up ham and cheese sandwiches on it, a devilled egg, deep-fried egg roll, and a few other items that neither my husband or I ate. The whole thing was so poorly put together it was nothing short of laughable. The next morning we attended the mandatory talk about signing up for the whole meal deal - and I felt sorry for Alain, actually...because, this place was so pathetic, how could he use this as a basis for selling and saying you have this to look forward to if you sign up!!! (He did get us a free cab ride from the airport though...however, that cost me a long distance tel. call)If you book your stay here, and we did so, because we booked at the last minute and didn't have anything left to choose from...the good things about the trip. We walked everywhere. It is close to the Mega Store (watch out for the guys in the orange shirts who are willing to help you, but just really want to get you to a time share talk). We made breakfast everyday - but they had to come in and fix our little two burner stove-top. We had to ask for a large cutting knife and pepper (which we never got) - and a hairdryer - you have to ask for that - oh, and our TV didn't work. But they came in and fixed that too. It was at such a wierd angle that we had to both sit close together on the bed so that we could see it, but it was so far up the wall, our necks hurt after a while, so that was never a big past time. We read a lot! Anyway, we sat by the pool in the morning and read, and the breeze in San Jose is delightful. No humidity! We met some nice people, and they all had similar comments about the hotel. But we sort of laughed about it, and talked about our plans for the day. You can walk along the beach, into town, take a tour into Cabo, and go out on a glass bottomed boat and see the sights. Go to Hangman's Restaurant in town...a must...unique and fun. Restaurants not to miss are Rusty Putter, Buen Appetito, Tropicana in town, and even take the chance of having a tamale from a gal who sells them by the church in town. We will go back because it is closer for us, and the town is great, but we will stay at a much nicer place. Mexico is all about the hot weather, the cold beers, and everyone being your friend. It was wonderful to get away, as it always is, but don't set your sights too high if you plan to stay at Park Royal.
