Morelia is of course a must-see for all aficionados of colonial architecture: block after block, easily done on foot, of splendid courtyard buildings, baroque churches. A delight! (Less touristy than Oaxaca, that other jewel, Morelia unfortunately has more traffic in the zocalo area,) Just returned after four nights at the BW Casino, which fully deserves its high ranking, especially when Expedia came up with a good deal (785 MN before taxes and without breakfast ...). My room was large, high-ceilinged, spotless, with a good, firm mattress; less successful were the viewless window and the lighting in the bathroom (and it could use a stool and an extra shelf or two - there's room), but especially the room location, next to the roperia where the maids gathered to chat and just above the courtyard restaurant ... I could have tried to change (as did an other "unhappy" couple); rooms at the front must have a lot of traffic noise, though with a view of the cathedral and square; those at the rear are probably the best located and apparently have a decent view. Compared to a few other spots close by, the restaurant's full Mexican breakfast, at 64 MN, seemed the best deal to me. The taxi fare from the airport to downtown was pre-paid at a counter for arrivals (200 MN); for the return, I expected the same fare - and the hotel even assured me it would be. The driver didn't agree, but was extremely polite about the situation, and I was happy to add on. Lesson, if this is important to you: try to pre-pay the return taxi ride!
