“El Sueño is a romatic dream come true”

EL Sueno Hotel & Spa

My husband and i booked the romantic package for one night to celebrate our two year anniversay.

This tiny boutique hotel has so many pluses that the few glitches that happened during our stay were erased.

THE HOTEL
The hotel is beuatiful, a combination of a tradicional mexican courtyard and a modern approch to decoration. The name of the Hotel "El Sueño" the dream in spanish is the theme of the whole hotel from the restaurant to the rooms and spa, and refers to th derams of diferent women who were somehow important to mexican culture from Frida Khalo to Sor Juana. The colors are dreamy and washed and there are famous dream quotes written on some walls.

THE ROOM
We had the Viridiana a Junior Suite wich is the middle category. Our room key had a picture of Viridiana as did the pillows on the bed and sofa, and the lamp shade. (Viridiana is the main character of a famous mexican Buñuel film)The bed was huge and inviting and the light filtering trough the drapes was very warm. In our packege we got a fruit plate wich we didnt particully enjoy since it just had apples and pear and no delicious mexican summer fruit and a nice bottle of wine. The foot of the bed was decorated with rose petals also a nice touch. The furniture in the room is a nice combo of soft colors and modernistic touches such as a cement sink and a stone wall with a quote form Buñuel written on it.

AMMENITIES
The robes, slippers and towels were really nice and cozy. The water is not filtered but the bottled water is complimentary. Nice toiletteries.

Breakfast is complimentary and a la carte. There are a lot of really yummy options incluiding typical mexican dishes and he standard eggs and panckes.

ROMANTIC DINNER
We booked a romantic dinner wich was a wonderful exprience. The decorated a tiny patio with flowers, candles, floaty fabrics and a really cool candlestick. We also has a beutifil serenata (serenade i think) from a trio three men with guitars singing beutifu romatic songs. The mediterrenean dinner was ok, some dishes above average but the exprience left us in a totally romatic mood.

SERVICE
Great service really helpful and warm.

BUT
The hotel is noisy. There was a contruction site next door and the Viridiana room shared a wall with the building so we felt hammering in our brains at 9 am, no exactly romantic. We called the front desk and they immediatley offrede to ask the crew to stop till later but apparently the crew didnt excatly care about our romantic gateway. Also all the rooms in the hotel face a courtyard so all voices outside the room can easily be heard.

“This is a very good hotel,”

We stayed in El Sueño for three nights last week and enjoyed it very much. It has a small bar in front and also a restaurant. It is centrally located about 3 blocks off the Zócalo, right around the corner from the Amparo museum. The jazcuzzi on the roof was very nice as well. We were orginally in the Frida room which it the second closest to the bar. We were there through the weekend and the noise from the bar was quite disturbing so we asked to be moved to a quiter room, which they did right away. They moved us to the Sor Juana room which had a smaller bed, but was very , very quiet and had an AC unit to further drown out any noise. We were pleased with this. The managment also apologized to us the next morning at breakfast. They rectified the situation perfectly and were extremely friendy the whole time. We had a great time chatting when them while having beers in their beautiful patio. They even helped me find a place to watch the Mexico Cuba game. The price also included an a la carte breakfast which was great. I would highly recommend this place. It is not the cheapest option, but in my opinion it would be hard to find a nicer place to stay in Puebla. I will also never complain about the writtings of Sor Juana ever again.

“Just like the dream it references”

A "sueño," for the uninitiated, is simply a dream and this hotel lives up to that. I attended a conference here in Puebla and decided I didn't want to take one of the the conference hotels, to instead try something a little more intimate. I was thrilled with my choice.

The architecture of the hotel is fairly interesting, mixing both the traditional Mexican layout of a long property with VERY modern touches, this last part largely due to the hotel's complete demolition and rebuilding after a major earthquake in 1999. Each room is different and is named after a singular Mexican historical figure (from actress Dolores del Rio to rebel nun Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, etc.). My room, the "Nahui" for poet and painter Nahui Olin, had incredibly high ceilings and concrete walls but still felt warm and intimate. The bathroom was equally spacious and modern (mine had a shower only, but a very large one).

The staff was uniformly wonderful to me throughout my stay -- and actually beforehand when I asked certain questions about my stay. (They even provided good advice as to where I could find some good, cheap Mexican movies. One caveat: I speak Spanish, so I don't know if the staff has equal proficiency in English; if you think everyone should know English to have a decent stay, then I might not suggest this.) The location is very close to the zócalo (center of town) and nearly everything you might want to go to. Breakfast is included in the price and a la carte -- and, I have to say, scrumptious. I strongly suggest going for the more exotic sounding dishes, which you'll be glad for.

The hotel is also a spa which, the luxuries of which (alas) I did not partake. I believe many did while I was here, however. Hopefully, if I make it back again with my wife on a pleasure trip, I'll be able to try it out then.

“Perfect Small Hotel”

EL Sueno Hotel & Spa

5 of 5 stars
Moscow, Idaho, USA!

My wife & I recently returned from a two week trip to Mexico that included a 5 night stay in Puebla, our first ever visit there. We stayed at the El Sueno Hotel & Spa, and are very pleased with our choice. From the moment we arrived at this small, boutique hotel, the staff was wonderful, attending to any need. Our room was on the ground level, and was perfectly clean and orderly, and SO QUIET! The hotel is situated very near to the historical center of the city, on a busy street, but inside the compound it is incredibly quiet and peaceful. We ate a very good meal in the restaurant
the first night there (graciously split mitad y mitad) and afterward met the Chef, Omar. Over the course of the next few days, we talked with Omar about different places and different foods we had enjoyed around town, and we ended up arranging a rooftop 'Romantic Dinner' , by candlelight, no less, on our last night! Omar prepared an 8 course feast that was magnificent!

All in all, a very memorable stay. I wish I could remember the names of all the staff, but Ana and all the rest certainly made sure we had anything and everything we needed. We would highly recommend this beautiful hotel to anyone wishing to visit Puebla. We will certainly return!

“The Best hotel in Puebla”

EL Sueno Hotel & Spa

I went to Hotel el Sueño with 5 of my best friends, and we had a wonderful time. The attention to details is amazing; each of us had a welcome bouquet of fresh flowers with our names written on it. Each room has a different Mexican theme, and they are all beautiful and comfortable. The hotel is modern and cozy at the same time and the staff makes you feel at home. They will provide anything you want. This is the best hotel in Puebla to relax and be pampered, without a doubt!
