*************BEWARE***************

Ok, so before I go into a few details about the hotel, just a little tip for those of you going to PVR, even if you don't stay at Allegro. When you leave the airport, there are people there as you exit and try to get a taxi, DON'T DIVERT, keep going throught the airport, and catch your taxi outside the airport, why...? Because there are timeshare reps there who try to tell you they are from your hotel, THEY ARE NOT!!! They will tell you they are going to give you a good deal on the excursions, but it's not that great of a deal, and it's a pain. They will tell you that if you sit through ONLY 90 mins(we were there for almost 5 hours!!) they will give you a discounted rate on the activities, scuba, horseback riding etc, you had planned on paying much more for. You then have to take much more time away from your much needed vacation telling 7 different people you are in NO WAY interested in time share. So in short, just walk straight out of the airport until you are outside. If you want to get a deal on the excursions, a few friends of ours went over to one of the timeshare hotels and they were given FREE, not discounted, activites. Then after the 90 mins, be VERY BLUNT, tell them you were told it was only going to take said time and be rude, otherwise...5 hours later. Say no, it's okay, you will still get the promised activities, even some of the pricey ones. Our friends said that when you go to the hotel, have a couple activities in mind you want.
okay, now the hotel...
STAFF***********
Extremely friendly. They were very nice from day one to checkout. We came across the same few waiters at the buffet and they always remembered what we wanted to drink after the first day. I know its all inclusive, but we tipped a few bucks here and there because of how friendly they were.
ROOMS**************
Bare, more like a motel. Not impressive at all, but, you usually arent in the room too much on vacation, definately not a honeymooners room. It was clean, no mold, smelled a little weird, but it is a very moist environment. No bugs or critters.
ACTIVITIES***********
Plenty of free things to do. Loved the tennis courts, kayaking, boogie boarding, ping pong, an oversized chess board and many more. We never felt bored or that we ran out of things to do.
LOCATION***********
You are far from downtown, so if you want to party everynight, you will spend a lot of money trying to get downtown, and I think the bus stops at 10pm. The beach location is nice. There are a few peddlers on the beach, but they dont harass you at all like some places in mexico. This is a $15 cab fare from the airport and be forwarned. You can take the bus from the hotel to the walmart in the heart of puerto vallarta, but dont take it if you are pressed for time. This bus makes a lot of stops and almost triples the time it would normally take in a cab. There is also a little strip mall with some american fast food places and an internet cafe practicaly across the street, but just know, these prices are even higher than in america.ex: baskin robbins in the mall was $9 for 2 single scoops of ice cream. They know most of their business is tourists.
OPEN BAR*******
The bar by the pool usually had a little line, but not too bad. The bar by the main desk has self serve beer and i almost never saw a line there. Drinks were mediocre.
FOOD****************
The guacamole was good, pure avacado, thankfully, because I practically lived off of it for 6 days. That was the only thing I really liked about the food. The breakfast was far better then lunch and dinner, variety wise. The rest of the food was pretty lame. As practically a vegetarian, I found it hard to find edible things at the buffets. It has a lot of beef and pork meals, but the salad bar consists only of lettuce and dressing, that's all. None of the food was anything to get excited over, even the restaurants, but it wasn't nearly as bad as the carnival cruise food I had a year ago. So it couldve been worse...
SUMMARY**************
All in all, my boyfriend and I are in agreement we would definately go back. The only thing is, we will not be going back in July. Apparently the summer season is when a lot of locals vacation. So if we do go back to PVR, it will be in December/February. I would like to go back when there weren't so many locals, I just felt a little out of place being that both of us really dont speak spanish and are not from Mexico. I would also like to say my boyfriend did book our rooms for a decent price, so that affected my rating. I gave it a better rating due to the fact that we didn't feel that we overpaid at all for the experience. No complaints here, Happy vacations!
