“Fabulous Accomodations!”

Post Hotel & Spa

We just returned from our trip to Banff and Jasper National Parks, and we had the pleasure of spending 4 nights at The Post. We found the accomodations to be excellent, and the hotel is in a great location. It is very pricey - realistically, it probably is not worth the money, but we enjoyed our stay all the same. After driving past other accomodations in Lake Louise and Banff, I am glad we chose The Post.

“Disappointing for a Relais & Chateax!”

Had to give it a try because of its over the top ratings.
Surprised that there was no information about the hotel's location being smack bang in the middle of the town connected literally by a foot bridge over the scenic Pipestone river, to the one and only shopping plaza - can hear the local traffic. Staff at door were absent or the one we saw was busy with a departing guest and did not greet us. Checkin staff are 'cold' with script sounding instructions about the hotel accompanied with alot of very quick finger pionting!!! Suite F for $600/night (#327) is very over rated as it is just behind the large and tall private villa that blocks most of the view of the river and part of the ski hill ahead. The river can be heard however and 2 spots through the evergreens just outside the balcony. Not sure we would even have enjoyed the villas because they look out right on to the river, but also to passersby from the town can see you on your lounge chairs ! (the one shown in all of their advertisments). Our shower drain plugged up last night and this morning, but was resolved after some harsh words to the front desk. The staff who are also 'concierge' was nothing but the same as the checkin staff!!! very disappointing again. Cleaning staff were friendly. Restaurant staff not recommended at all - no sense of personal interest in their guests needs. Food is very creamy (french influence i guess) and not to standard at all, as say, their counterpart in Tofino. Beds are great. Would not have liked to be here in the heat of July as there is no air conditioning and yes, not alot of air flow through the suite; but! there is a fireplace despite they are closed for Winter!!! If you are accustomed to Relais & Chateaux level of property and service, this location would be very disppointing!

“Wonderful Honeymoon Spot”

Post Hotel & Spa

4 of 5 stars
New York, New York

My husband and I just returned from a 7 night, honeymoon stay at The Post Hotel and Spa. Although originally scheduled to honeymoon in Jamaica, Hurricane Dean changed our plans for - sorry Jamaica - the better. Since our travel plans were so last minute, I called the Hotel directly and was lucky enough to secure a K suite on the preferred side of the property. I mentioned only once that it was our honeymoon and the gentleman must have been listening attentively because upon arrival a bottle of chilled Moet, six chocolate covered strawberries, and a basket of fresh fruit was waiting!

The room itself was beautiful, with a fireplace, double jacuzzi tub, separate shower, living room, small kitchen area, balcony with seating area overlooking a stream, and the most plush king bed I have ever had the pleasure of sleeping in! Nightly turn-down service offers sweet truffles on your pillow and a bottle of water per person on the nightstand. Kindling and logs for the fire are replaced daily and nice bath salts are provided for the jacuzzi.

As my husband and I are from New York, we are accustomed to high prices and excellent service. The Post was certainly above average, but some small details in the service could be improved. For example, housekeeping never cleaned our suite exactly the same during the entire seven nights we were there. Something small (a towel, fresh fruit, half and half, cleaning supplies) was inevitably forgotten. Afternoon tea and coffee service was inconsistent: certain servers were extremely attentive and offered refills on everything and other servers came by once and then we were forgotten. On a bright note, every bellman on staff was wonderful, particularly Shaun from Wales, who took care of every detail for us with a smile and was more than willing to offer hiking suggestions and spots of interest during our stay.

The food and service at the main restaurant, which has rightfully won many awards and has a world-class wine list, was excellent. If you go, get the bacon-wrapped bison and splurge on your favorite wine, no matter how generally difficult to find, they'll have it. Try the eggs Benedict for breakfast. As for the food at the Outpost Pub and the limited food and cake offerings at the bar during afternoon tea, well, we've certainly had better and spent far less money in New York. To us, the food in general in Canada was either over salted or overly sweet, and these two places were no exception. There was a decadent Coupe Denmark ice cream sundae with local chocolate sauce, strawberry, chocolate chip cookie, and homemade vanilla ice cream that we returned for almost nightly.

The gym was nice, although open only until 9pm, which is kind of early to close considering night doesn't fall until 10pm and and may people - including us - were out late exploring the sites. There is also a nice steam room near the small pool.

The library is a great place to relax for an hour and has a good selection of titles to read during your stay.

This property is truly beautiful. I would recommend that travelers spend the extra money to stay on the preferred side of the property. To cut down on food costs, my husband and I brought some food to prepare in the room and also stopped for reasonably priced groceries (especially for breakfast) in Banff. We were happy we did so.

Explore Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, head over to Johnston Canyon, hike around Peyto Lake, drive along the Icefields Parkway and take a walk on a glacier, and finally, make the haul to Jasper. It is well worth it!

“We love the Post Hotel!”

Post Hotel & Spa

5 of 5 stars
Milwaukee
Aug 28, 2007

Our family of four stayed at the Post Hotel back in 1988 and loved it. My husband and I decided to make it our grand finale evening of our trip back to the Canadian Rockies. We stayed in the Whitehorn Cabin by the Bow River and it was awesome! The Post Hotel did not disappoint us after nineteen years. It is the epitome of rustic elegance. Our cabin was adorable with beautiful flowers in the window boxes. The sound of the rushing Bow River right outside the door was great! The cabin is a bit small, but it makes up for that with its charm. We decided to go all out for our last dinner in the Canadian Rockies and ate in their dining room, but I have to admit we wished we had eaten elsewhere. Our waiter was rather a "stuffed shirt" type which does affect how one feels about a place. The food was delicious, what little you got of it, and very expensive. It's served very artistically and I guess that makes up for the small amount. If you're not concerned about the price, go for it, you'll probably love it. All in all, the Post Hotel is A#1.

“Fab-u-lous!!”

Post Hotel & Spa

Aug 27, 2007

The word is: Fabulous. We went to the Post Hotel to celebrate our anniversary. We had booked a room on the preferred side and when we checked in, we informed that we had been upgraded to a suite. And the suite was beautiful. It was spacious yet cozy, and everything looked brand new. The rooms are beautifully appointed and they provide guests with great magazines (Wine Spectator, Style at Home), along with designer toiletries.

I had the thrill of enjoying the Temple Mountain Spa - it was terrific. We also ate at the restaurant, which is an absolute delight. We were given a tour of the wine cellar, were seated next to the fireplace, and were given excellent service throughout our stay.

I think the Post Hotel is one of the classiest establishments I have ever been to. If you are looking for a luxurious experience, this is your place.
