We have just returned from a week's holiday across the Rockies. We stayed 3 nights in the HI Lake Louise Alpine Centre. Initially, I had looked at other accommodation in the area, but as its school holiday season, there wasn't much around for under $300 a night. The HI Lake Louise charged us just over $100 a night. This was for a private room which accomodated my husband and I, and our 2 kids, 11 & 14 years. There were 2 sets of single bunks and a loft with a double bed. Our room had a toilet and basin. We shared a shower in the hallway with other guests which was fine. The hostel has a great restaurant, which when compared with others in Lake Louise, is well priced and caters to families. We used the kitchen for self catering on a number of occassions, which was fine. Its location is handy, easy walking distance to the shopping village. Staff were friendly and helpful. Only problem I can see is the rooms could get hot in the warmer weather. The nights were cool when we were there and our room still got fairly warm in the night. Other than that, we would certainly stay there again. The kids really liked it, and when you consider you are out most of the day hiking and sightseeing, who needs 5-star??
