OK so it was the night before stampede but the reception staff were surly and just not interested. They could not find my reservation and only the fact of me presenting a travel agent voucher even kept them interested. Intitially they gave us a room with one queen bed for 3 people!!!!! This progressed to one king bed for 3, then they offered a double bed and pull out for my disabled mother. At this point I saw red and eventually let rip. Ended up with 2 queen beds on a smoking floor despite requesting a non smoking room as I am asthmatic. On asking to speak with the duty manager I got told tough take it or leave it.

Whilst this was going on another poor lady from the same travel agent was being sent out to the Sandman Galgary west on her own as they had run out of rooms.

Customer service is a laugh in this place. We reported as requested in the literature that my mother was disabled and would require assistance in the evnt of an emergency and being on the 19th floor. The reaction was well just how many floors can she walk down then!!!!

The only good point was the location right next to the LTR to get to the stampede.

“Dark, dingy and depressing”

The Sandman is not a pleasant place...the good bits first - next to the Calgary rail system so trains and transport all very easy, now scratching my brains for more good points...oh yes the coffee machine did work!...oh yes and there were some scantily clad waitresses which kept me intersted but my wife was not so impressed

Other than that the place is dark and run down (even though they claim to have spent money recently on a refurb). Bedrooms are airless and hot and the aircon came out of the 1960s.

Also watch out for Crack Corner just opposite the hotel where the local drug dealers can be openly seen dealing and smoking their product - great if you are a crack head but I suspect most of us are not!

Would I go again - no way.

“Hotel hell!”

Sandman Hotel City Centre

Jun 30, 2008

The staff at check in where very unhelpful, bored even!! I was given a card and informed I was staying on the 23rd floor. I had to ask them where the lift was, andhow the card worked as this was not explained to me. I arrived on the 23rd floor to find the corridoor was full of furniture (?) My card didn't open my door so had to travel all the way back down , climbing over furniture to get to the lift, to reception to try another 3 times to get the card to work. All this after a 13 hour flight into Calgary and carrying a 18kg backpac! Great!! When finallyin the room it smelt of stale tobacco! I was woken in the night by men wanting to come into my room to remove the furniture!! I told them where to go! When I checked out of the hotel I informed the receptionist of the incident the night before but no appology was offered. It is a budget hotel but still not worth the money! I will not be staying there again as it was dirty and left me feeling quite intimidated!!!

Stayed 2 nights 1-2 May 2008. Unlike others we didn't have any problems with this hotel at all, found the room clean and comfortable, bar on the 1st floor was nice, close to the free city light rail. Spotted a few people having trouble withe cards and lifts. I did leave a couple of postcards at reception to be mailed (lazy me, should have walked across the road to the mail box), which took 4 weeks to get back to Australia, when others I posted myself took 1 week, so think something might have gone astray behind the counter. Our biggest issue was simply that after travelling from Vancouver and the spectacular scenery of the Rockies, Calgary was just a bit bland, but that's hardly the hotel's fault!

We stayed here at the start of our holiday in Canada. The check in staff were bored, the rooms were tired and in need of some serious help and when we checked out they couldn't have cared less. No "Have you enjoyed your stay?" Maybe they knew what we would have said!!
Moxies service was awful. A cold breakfast is no way to start another wet rainy day in boring Calgary!!
