Hotel is showing it's age. Service was nice. Room was average sized, and nicely appointed, but showing it's age.

My toilet ran all day and night intermittedly...very annoying.

Internet access was good and fast in the room.

Front desk staff helpful at suggesting places to eat.

MY room overlooked the parking lot, and it seemed to be gathering place for kids all night, but other than that ok.

This hotel is wonderful it has a professional friendly staff and great rooms you get what you pay for so those that have complained should perhaps decide what they want and pay for it.

The rooms I have stayed in are fabulous clean and warm and comfortable. Your privacy is respected.

This is also a really "family" place and it warms the heart to hear kids having fun.

There are numerous restaraunts close by and easy transportation access.

This is a wonderful place to stay while in Calgary. I have stayed in many high quality hotels and this hotel is the one I recommend.

“Good bargain, easy access to downtown”

I didn't mind this hotel being outside of the downtown area since it was so easy to take the tram. (An easy walk out of the hotel down the hill of the parking lot, to the left through the opening in the fence and you'll see it.)
On the day I arrived, (8/13/06), I had to wait a few minutes to go inside & check in since there had been some carbon momoxide leak situation in the restaurant. The TV cameras tried to interview me & everything. The following morning I had a note under my door apologizing for the incident, possible lack of cleaning for that day, and free breakfast coupons.
What I liked is that there are a few fast food joints and a 7-11 within a decent walking distance.
The pool was "OK", the room was decent (bathroom as well). The hallways weren't too smelly from what I thought.
I appreciated how the staff was friendly and frequently inquisitive as to how my stay was going.

    • Tips/Secrets: — Take northbound tram to get downtown. Must have correct change for ticket purchase from machine prior to boarding tram.

..after reading the reviews on this site about the hotel.

I found the hotel to be a typical Holiday Inn that is 1970's in style, but a hotel that has a restaurant, pool, and a little bit more than the cheap places. Since I got the room for only $5 more than the Econolodge, I was happy.

The hallways did smell of smoke, but not the room.

Thge staff was new, but learning.

Sometimes, I think people that are paying low prices just expect too much.

If there was a problem for me, it was the neighborhood, with the Sushi Sex Shoppe up the street and the warehouses behind the hotel. The trade off is that there is a tram stop right behind the hotel for easy transit to the downtown area cheap.

If I wanted to visit downtown and the fairgrounds at a low price, I'd stay here and take the tram.

“Do Not Stay Here!!!!!”

Holiday Inn Calgary-Macleod Trail South

My mother and I were on a road trip for 2 weeks, and we had one problem with a hotel prior to this one. We had been put in a room with a view of a wall, we requested a change, and there were no problems. This hotel made up for every other hotel that we stayed in that didn't have any problems...After booking 2 months in advance, we were given a room with a view of the pool roof, and a wall, as well as a window that wouldn't close and lock. We expressed our concern to the front desk staff, were told they couldn't do anything for us regarding the view for our first night, but would send maintenance to fix the window right away. Remember, they're policy is, if we can't fix it your stay for that night is free. They told us all they could do was give us a free breakfast...So, after going out for dinner and some shopping we returned to our room and discovered that no one had come to fix the window. We called the front desk, and only then did we have someone from maintenance come. He managed to get the windo to close, but he still couldn't lock it. So he was forced to jimmy it so it couldn't be opened or closed. The next day after returning from our activities, we went to the front desk to ask for our new keys as we were instructed. No one at the front desk knew what we were talking about and we were told they didn't have any rooms for us...and we were told we were in the nicest room - Not sure how bad any of the other rooms could possibly be as we were never switched - nor were we refunded any money. Not only did they tell us this, but the manager left it to a new girl who had only been on the job a couple of day, to tell us that we couldn't be switched to a different room - there wasn't a manager anywhere to be found.
