“Mislead by TripAdvisor reviewers for this hotel -- avoid this place”

Quality Hotel Airport & Conference Centre

I consulted TripAdvisor reviews as the basis for finding a good value hotel close to the Calgary airport. I ended up selecting the Quality Hotel because of the price, free 24 hour shuttle to airport, and reviews on this web site.

My entire extended family (3 couples) were very disapointed with the accomodations. Here's the laundry list of things that bothered us and why we wouldn't recommend this place.

- the shower was problematic. Half of the water was coming out of the shower head... the other half from the bottom spout directly into the tub.

- the hot / cold faucets in the bathroom were installed backwards

- the toilet didn't flush properly

- there was no extrator in the bathroom

- the temperature control in the rooms were not working properly. It was really hot all night, even though we had opened the windows and it was minus 10 centigrade outside.

- the elevator is ancient and will not fit more than 6 people with small pieces of luggage

- the room is in desperate need of a makeover. The carpeting is really old and so is the bedding.

A one night stay at this hotel was more expensive than a stay at a boutique hotel in downtown Calgary earlier that week.

Quality Hotel Airport & Conference Centre

I sat in a conference at the hotel for over 7 hours. The rooms flooring was like the ocean. It was completely uneven and my chair was at a difficult angle. The windows seeped cold air through them. It felt as if i was near an air conditioner on full blast. I had to put on a winter jacket and stuff the curtains in that one crack which still did not help. My feet were cold the whole time. It definetely was an unpleasant stay.

“Good if someone else is picking up the bill”

Quality Hotel Airport & Conference Centre

I was in Calgary on business and stayed here for one night. The hotel appeared a little bit older but it looked like they were trying to renovate it. Some of the furniture looked new but they did a sloppy job in upgrading the rooms, there were numerous holes in the walls from moving pictures and hangers around. Their bed was large and comfortable but I did find someone else's hair on the pillows. The hotel seemed to be cheaping out on heat. I turned the heat up to about 30C but it only warmed up to 20C, someone else also had the same complaint. The showers would be boiling hot one minute and freezing cold the next and this continued for the whole shower. The shower heads were very low and old. We noticed that the conference room was freezing as well, so it really could be the hotel cutting back on costs. My stay here was ok only because it was paid for by work but I would never come here on my own money.

“Worn down, dirty, small cramp rooms”

We had to stay at this hotel as the conference was being held here and for overall convenience of parking, etc. we stayed and endured. Otherwise, we would have left immediately. The corridors rugs were dirty, musty, lobby was not impressive and distinct odors of a refuse (like a refuse was nearby and the odors were coming in the building due to poor ventilation). Spoke to other guests who had all complained of this odor throughout the lobby. The rooms were small and during the 4 night stay the room was not vacuumed once. We had left crumbs around the tv and desk and bed areas deliberately after noting this on the second day and the rug was not vacuumed. Small cramp room with a musty smell, the shower did not work properly, the tub could not be used for a bath as the plug did not even fit that tub. Overall a terrible place to stay for the dollars spent on the room. The staff were pleasant at front desk, especially Anna. As prior reports there are so much better places to stay near the airport and allot more economical. There was no quality in this quality inn.

Good:
-free Wi-Fi
-clean room
-friendly staff
-parking is free
-close to airport

Not so Good:
-no fridge or ice machine available
-not the nicest looking neighborhood

I would stay here again if I was in the same circumstances (I was not in Calgary to see Calgary, I was only there as a layover with an early flight the next morning and if I needed cheap accommodation).
