“Stay Somewhere Else”

Wingate Inn Edmonton West

May 25, 2008

The hotel is located on an awkward one way street. There are signs up in the lobby & in the parking lots advising of a lot of recent break-
in’s to vehicles. We were conveniently not given the room we requested even though we had confirmation that is what we would get & we were also charged more then what we were quoted.

The room that we were given had hair all over the sheets in both beds, so we went back to the front desk for the third time to request a different room. The room we were given was pretty large except for some strange reason the beds did not have bed skirts on them so you could see the mattresses.

The maids will knock on your door at 9:00 looking to clean your room. They never changed the sheets one day even though we requested them to & we had to ask for our towels to be replaced after the maid took the dirty ones and never gave us clean ones. The rooms, hallways, and stairs could use a good vacuuming as well as a good cleaning. It is defiantly not the cleanest hotel I have stayed in.

The breakfast they serve in the morning was very good except they shut down at precisely to time they say it does. We only used the pool once the waterslide is good for kids as the pool is pretty shallow & pretty much only usable for the waterslide.

Upon checkout I told the desk clerk for the second time they were charging us too much for the room. I showed her the printed confirmation with the price the rooms were & yet they still were trying to get around it. I told her that is what was e-mailed to us and it clearly showed the rate we should have been charged. She then proceeded to tell me that I will need to call back and talk to a manager because they don't have authorization to make adjustments. They can charge your credit card no problem but cannot give you money back. Make sure you print your confirmation details & bring them with you. Without that we would have never received our money back.

There are a lot of other hotels choices in the area & we would never recommend this hotel to others. Stay somewhere else!

I was generally disappointed with this hotel. The rooms were either too hot or too cold. We could not get the temperature regulated. The rooms were somewhat grungy as well. My grandson had a little ball with him with a velcro like exterior. When he rolled that ball across the floor, it was clogged with hair time and time again. I cannot imagine when that room was last vacuumed. We checked out a day early.

“Find Someplace Else”

Wingate Inn Edmonton West

Dec 29, 2007

We stayed one night at the Wingate on a recent trip to Edmonton.

Based on the reviews - it looked like a good choice for what we wanted, and on initial arrival, staff was courteous and the room looked fine.

After about five minutes in the room - loud stomping, running, and jumping noises started reverberating through the ceiling. It was 5:00 p.m. but rather than wait until later, I called down to the desk and asked them is they could ask those in the room above to stop the jumping. "Sure, we'll look into that". Went to eat for a few hours and when we returned, the stomping jumping, running was still going. Called down again - same response Fast forward, 11:00 p.m. The herd of elephants were still tropming around. Another call. 2:00 a.m. still going.

At breakfast (6:00 a.m. cause never did get to sleep) - I sat beside a few other folks that compained of exactly the same noise problem coming through the ceiling and they were on a different floor at the opposite end of the hotel. My conclusion, the hotel is poorly constucted, and unless you are on the top floor - you'll take your chances on getting the noise.

The pool and slides. As several have commented - the hot tub was like a lukewarm bathtub. The slides were good. In the morning, we went to the pool and noticed that there were no towels available (before we got into the water). Walked back to the lobby and asked at the front desk if they could have some towels brought to the pool. "Sure, I'll have some brought right away". Went to the pool more 1.5 hours. No towels. About three other familes were in the same spot - stuck in the pool waiting for towels. The phone on the wall did not work, so I finally walked to the front desk dripping wet and freezing. I asked the girl (same girl) "What happened to the towels you were going to have sent". Reply - 'We're busy, we're short staffed". Quite the apology.

One final note - although the room card you get indicates that you'll get a 5% discount if you pay with AMEX - don't believe it.

Summary - You take your chances with this place. The Service is poor, hotel construction poor, and value really not great.

“I still return to the Wingate”

Wingate Inn Edmonton West

5 of 5 stars
Lethbridge, Canada

Wingate is a decent hotel at average rates. The breakfast bar is great. The breakfast bar is one of the reasons we return to this hotel. We ran into some problems on our last trip to Edmonton (nothing to do with the hotel) and when we asked the hotel if they could help us out, they were FANTASTIC!! Not sure all hotels would have assisted us like these folks did. I think the only complaint I have ever had, is the pool. It is very small, the water slide is good for kids because it is slow, but the water is SOOOO COLD!! It's like they filled it with the cold water tap and then left it as is. I lasted a mere few minutes then went into the hot tub. My next visit to Edmonton will likely find me back at this location.

I called the hotel directly for a jacuzzi room and they had some available. Great I needed to get away from home and it was my first night away from my baby since she was born 5 months ago. Well upon arrival the front desk man was not helpful. He was hard to understand and charged the room to our credit card with our asking us if we would like to even pay with it in which we did not. Then he said that the room we book the jacuzzi room had problems with the bathroom and jacuzzi and he put us in a family room. Ok fine as long as it had a jacuzzi cause all I wanted to do was relax and soak in it. Well we get to the room and it was a family room indeed,2 beds 2 tvs and a normal bathroom and NO jacuzzi. I was mad, first we wait so long for the guy to do his checking in thing that took 1/2 hour I swear. Then this, the room smelled weird and had burn marks in a supposed non smoking room. The beds seemed old and the room itself looked old and worn out or a new hotel. Hy husband went back to the front desk to ask why are we not getting a room with a jacuzzi and he tells us there are no more room with a jacuzzi. So we left the hotel and he gave us our money back.He offered us a discount but I already called the Fantasyland hotel and got a theme room for about the same price for the wingate non jacuzzi room.Let me tell you I will NEVER go there again. The front desk service was the worst ever and slow (he was like this with all the guests).
