“Mmm...not that great”

Jasper House Bungalows

We stayed three nights at the Jasper House Bungalows, but the place had its problems. First, the wireless internet acess was as slow as 1.0mps during the afternoons, and as low as 18.0mps at night (and we're talking 10-11 pm, when the majority of the guests are asleep. Secondly, we were very disappointed in the fact that the chamber maids did almost completely nothing but make the beds and change the towels--not even washing the dishes or giving us more shampoo or a new bar of soap. However, on the second night we did get to see a parade of elk moving down the road in front of us, so it's good if you want to see wildlife roaming right outside your windows.

“Quiet with great views”

Stayed here for 3 nights during our trip through the Rockies. We were given cabin 15, overlooking the river. The view was wonderful. The sight was very clean and quiet and it only took a few minutes to get into Jasper.
Ours was one cabin in a 'terrace' of 4, I thought we would be able to hear a lot of noise from our neighbours but we didn't. We had one bedroom with queen bed which was comfortable, bathroom, lounge and kitchenette. The cabin was serviced everyday and was very clean.
Had a meal in the restaurant on the first night which was average. Saying that, the next night we ate out in Jasper paying a lot more and that wasn't much better. The Bears Paw was great for coffee, cakes and pastries.

“Great stay”

Jasper House Bungalows

Jun 4, 2008

We stayed here for 2 nights in late May 2008 in a cabin which overlooked the Athabasca river (great view). The cabin was roomy and very clean. Would definitely go back.

“Adequate dark, rustic cabins set among beautiful mountains and rivers”

If you've come to Jasper to see wildlife, stay at Jasper House Bungalows. Elk and the little presents they leave behind are synonymous with the grounds here.

This is a great place for a family on a budget or couples who prefer rustic accomodations with some conveniences. But we weren't impressed by the rooms. The lighting was poor and the cleanliness suspect in both the bedroom and the living area. We could barely muster enough lighting to be able to cook a dinner meal. The furniture is mediocre at best. The couches and bed looked and felt rather uncomfortable. The kitchen equipment was poor quality. Interestingly, the only room we really felt was clean and modern turned out to be the bathroom.

Our experience may have been affected by the poor quality of sleep we had during our two nights here. It was during the elk bugling season, as starting around 10pm lasting until 6am, we were surrounded by a symphony of shreeking and bellowing. If we hadn't been expecting to get a good night's sleep to be able to hike and explore Jasper, this wouldn't have been such a nuisance. As such, consider yourself warned about both the accessibility or annoyances of nature, depending on how you see it.

The grounds itself is beautiful. We went for evening walks along the Athabasca River which takes a bend right behind the bungalows. The water is an eye-boggling blue-green that we've only seen in places like the Caribbean before, and the area is so secluded that you'll feel like you've been transported back 200 years.

“Lovely log cabin in ideal setting”

Jasper House Bungalows

May 7, 2008

Accomodation: Lovely cedar wood log cabin, 2 queen beds, clean, comfortable, small bathroom with good power shower, well equipped with kitchen, satellite TV, hair dryer, tea/coffee etc

Location: Perfect. Set in a quiet woodland park right on the banks of the Athabasca river with pleasant views of the surrounding countryside. Not too remote only 2 miles from Jasper town.

Facilities: The restaurant was good value for money, helpful staff at main reception area, small shop. Great picnic area where we enjoyed barbeques and wine in the evenings.

Overall: Lovely cabins in a picturesque setting. Ideal base for exploring the stunning area. Highly recommended.
