Jasper Park Lodge was amazing. Cute huts and hotel set around the lake in the mountains.
We didn't book direct with the hotel, but through an internet company and printed off a voucher. There was some confusion over the booking, we booked 2 double rooms and they had booked us as 1 room with 2 double beds. We were totally reassured by the trainee who called over his supervisor and within less than 5 minutes we were upgraded from hotel rooms to suites overlooking the lake with fireplaces (and we didn't even have to look annoyed over the confusion, I would have just been pleased with 2 rooms not just 1 so my partner and I wouldn't have to share with my mother!)
Everything was perfect, service, rooms were lovely, and the best part was elk wondering around outside our cabins!
We ordered room service for breakfast which was exquisit and ate it beside the lake on the provided deck.
All in all this place is just like a scene from dirty dancing (with upgraded clothes, music, none of that corny 'lets go learn the samba' and nothing dirty of course!) We all loved every minute, its pure outdoors luxury.

“Rustic surroundings with great service”

Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge

Edmonton

Stayed here in Jan/Feb 2008 after taking the Via Rail snow train from Edmonton to Jasper. Hotel booking done through Skoosh at a rate that was 60% less than what was advertised on the Fairmont site.

Location: The Jasper Park Lodge is quite a bit further out of town than I thought so it's best to arrive by car and in daylight.

Transportation from train: Could have been more efficient. We were waiting for 15 minutes at the Jasper train station. There was approximately 45 people waiting for transport at 9:45 pm on a cold January night.

Check in: A bit confusing for those of us coming off the shuttle. We were told that our luggage would be left for us in the front lobby but there seemed to be a delay in getting it. We also had a hiccup with our room. I booked through British site skoosh and was supposed to have two queen according to the booking on Skoosh. I even called the hotel after to verify that it would be two queen beds. Instead, we were given a room with two twin beds and I think our late arrival had something to do with this. We were switched the next day as we had two more people joining us but it was a bit of an inconvenience.

Parking: Free self parking but finding a spot to park near your cabin can be problematic.

Rooms: average sized to cramped for a basic Fairmont room. Try to get something with a view rather than in the row cabins in the middle of the complex. The hotel will shuttle you from your cabin to the main lodge but wait times vary. Beds were a bit hard, in my opinion. TV was surprisingly old with poor reception. We had a lot of problems with the wireless internet. Washrooms cramped but plenty of hot water in the showers.

Restaurants and room service: we had brunch in the Moose's Pantry --quite good but not absolutely spectacular. The light lunch we had in the lounge off the lobby was excellent though. Room service was slow (up to 45 minutes) but excellent service.

Activities: plenty of winter activities if you come dressed and equipped for it. We brought skates and snowshoes so spent plenty of time outside playing in snow and exploring the grounds.

“Nice Stay”

Took my daughter and her friend for a weekend ski trip. Booked thru our automobile association on their bed and breakfast special. The lodge and grounds are absolutely beautiful. The staff is great and very accommodating. The pool was perfect for my two teens as it stayed open each night until 10 pm and the hotel arranged lots of activities for little ones as this was spring break time.

We stayed in a Fairmont deluxe cabin. While the beds and bedding are very comfortable, these rooms really need a makeover. They are truly showing their wear from the carpets, mouldings, floors to the bathroom itself. The buffet breakfast in the Meadows room was delicious but personally I felt not worth the $25 price per person. If I didnt have the bed and breakfast special, there was no way I would spend that much per person on breakfast - who really eats $25 worth of breakfast anyway plus there wasnt anything special on the menu that warrants that cost.

All in all it was a nice weekend in beautiful surroundings - the rooms just require an upgrade.

“Beautiful!”

We stayed there for one night- just traveling through. We got there a little late, so we didn't have time to look around as much as we would've liked too. The room was nice, very clean and the beds were soo comfterable. The staff was very friendly and extremely helpful.
We ordered room service for dinner. It came very fast and tasted great! The presentation of it was great too. They have a really diverse menu for room service. My daughter is a vegetarian, but she had no trouble finding good options to eat.
Amazing location, too. The view was so beautiful! We only wish we could've stayed longer and looked around at the pool etc.
Highly reccomended.

“Rustic Charm”

Only stayed 1 night at the Fairmont but it was our Anniversary. Firstly, the location - this was great, views of the mountains, lake etc with wildlife wondering outside your door. The hotel is outside Jasper and if you want to venture out for a meal, then you will need to drive. Our room was great, very rustic, which we tend to like. As it was our Anniversary, neither of us wanted to drive so we decided to eat in the hotel. As we arrived quite late, we found this was quite difficult, however, after pushing the staff, they were extremely helpful and found us a place in the restauraunt. The meal was fantastic (although quite expensive) and they added some really nice touches as it was our Anniversary. Don't get us wrong, the hotel is not bad but we felt that it was trying to aspire to a level of grandeur. This should not put anyone off as we would definately consider staying their again.
