For our last night of our 10 day Vancouver/Victoria/Whistler trip, we decided to splash out on a little bit of luxury.
We booked on-line directly with the Metropolitan after using Trip Advisor reviews and forums to narrow down our search, we went for the Breakfast of Champions package - as it included breakfast for 2, an upgrade to an Executive (Floor 11 and above - I think) King Room and an unknown "Welcome Amenity"
On arrival we were impressed with the friendliness of the front-desk staff and even more impressed with the welcome amenity which turned out to be biscotti, strawberries, chocolate sauce and a hand-written welcome note waiting for us in our room.
The room was slightly smaller than what we were expecting - we had to use a chair to store our second suitcase - hardly a big issue, and the bed was huge - with a duvet not a blanket - such a pleasant change! The marble bathroom was fantastic - with lots of mirrors - though thankfully from the shower cubicle you don't get a "full frontal" view!
Whilst we were out eating dinner our used towels were replaced, the bed was turned down, a bottle of water was put by the bed, the radio was playing relaxing music and a card with the following day's weather was placed by the water. We don't normally stay in hotels - so all of this was quite a novelty.
Check-out time was midday - so we made the most of the room and checked out at 11.50!
Our only possible warning (which didn't impact on our Saturday night stay) was the construction work going on directly next door. A letter explaining that work starts at 7.30 Mon-Fri and at 10am on Saturdays was in the room. However, seeing that most of downtown Vancouver is a building site just now (and will continue to be so until Feb 2010), ear-plugs might be a good idea wherever you stay!
