“Spectacular views”

Plaza 500 Hotel & Convention Center

Jul 15, 2008

We stayed here July 4th till July 8th in a Junior Suite on the 12th floor. The view of the city and mountains and yes, even the ocean was spectacular. At night the lights were breath-taking from out large sliding glass door that led to the balcony.
The room was large and had a nice comfortable bed. The bathroom was very nice, even a telephone located in there. I liked that the closet was set around the corner from view of the sitting area. Our friends were on the 8th floor with a great view also. The staff were so nice and the restaurant was located right off from the large spacious lobby. Our room was cleaned daily and a fresh supply of coffee, tea, and bath gear was always there. A mini frig is in the room also. Across the street was an inside mall with a food court, a safeway, and many other shops; so things were handy. City Hall was located on the corner and at night it was so beautiful. We took a stroll each evening into the neighborhoods up the street. Easy in and out of main Vancouver from here - Stanley Park, Capilano Park and Granville Island, Gastown, and China town - -
Yes, there is work being done on the one street, but we did not hear the noise. Stay in the Jr. Suite and ask for higher floor! WOW, nice location and views!

“Horrible Hotel!”

I regret deeply for not reading the reviews on TripAdvisor before booking this hotel. Every negative things that the members mentioned on here are true! We booked under Expedia and was located on 3rd floor. The hallway was musty and narrow. The room was small and dirty. It doesn't seem like it has been kept well.

The hotel is OUTSIDE of downtown Vancouver and is surrounded by noisy construction. I think I paid way too much for such a low and dirty budget hotel.

Don't go here!

We bid $125 (us) for a 2 bed queen - I would not bid anymore than that.

Positive -
*rooms were just the right size for us
* mall across the street had safeway, food courts, produce shop and one of the best chinese restaurants ( according to reviews) in Vancouver
* #15 bus across the street took you into downtown without a long wait
* very helpful staff- were willing to move us into a king size on the upper floor if we were not satisfied with room
* quality restaurants on west broadway- 2 blocks away
Negatives:
* just like other posters mentioned most priceline rooms are on the 4th floor
* construction is still going on ( ask for room #422-430)
* $20 /night for parking !!!
* air conditoner was noisy

all in all I would stay here again

“Loved the bed, depised the plumbing!”

Plaza 500 Hotel & Convention Center

Jun 21, 2008

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 5 days in early June. We booked via Expedia for $135/night (includes $10 food credit). Overall, hotels in Vancouver during high season is unbelievably expensive. We chose this hotel because it was on sale..believe it nor not, regular price is $180-$595/night here. This is definitely a 3-star hotel - nothing higher. We booked a queens bed but when we arrived, they mistakenly gave us a a double bed and because we nicely told them about this mistake, they upgraded us to a king-size room on the highest floor. But that room had a washroom with a broken shower head (you would have to hold the metal shower activator thingy the entire time or else the water would not come out of the shower head). And because we arrived late, we didn't tell front desk until the next day. However, when we did tell them about the problem, they switched us to another room - luckily also on the same floor. The view from the 17th floor is amazing. The room itself is spacious, clean but both the room and the entire hotel is not very new. We did enjoy their big and comfy king size bed very much...it sure made sleeping away from home a little better. The first room we slept in was facing the main street so it was so noisy from all the traffic in the morning - worst, the area is under constructions (they're adding a subway that takes people all the way to/from the airport). The second room was much better because it faced the back of the building. The front desk was responsive and very friendly. The restaurant inside the hotel has very good breakfast but we only got to use the food credit coupon once. The area although is not walking distance to/from downtown, it is very close to restaurants and is right across from a small shopping mall - we highly recommend you try the dim sum restaurant across from it as well as the Chinese 'pulling noodle' restaurant. Additionally, we were very annoyed that internet and parking cost extra!! In sum, we wouldn't stay here if we were to visit Vancouver again but the overall experience isn't that bad -- besides the terrible plumbing problems of course!

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — Comfortable and clean bed, nice view, friendly front desk staff.
    • Disliked — Old building, far from downtown, terrible plumbing problems, had to pay extra for Internet and parking.

“Don't Stay Here”

Plaza 500 Hotel & Convention Center

Jun 7, 2008

This hotel has some serious issues. My husband and I were given a room in the hotel that was on the 4th floor. The hallways smelled like "a wet dog" and the carpet was dirty and "coming up" in areas. Our room was clean and decent, but the entire window faced a very noisy construction zone. We complained immediately and were re-located to the 5th floor. The hallway was identical in smell and appearance. Also, we found the room to be unbearably hot and stuffy. When trying to turn on the AC, it was broken. Once again, this generated a call to the front desk. The hotel manager came up and looked at the air conditioner. She stated that she would be back with a portable AC unit, as they were fully booked and could not move us again. Thirty minutes later, after lying around in the room drenched in sweat, we called and complained. The hotel manager returned to our room with a small fan. I asked her, "Is this the portable AC unit?" She stated that it was all they had and that maybe tommorrow they could move us to the tower. It finally cooled off at night, no thanks to the "crappy" fan that was provided. The next day we were moved to the tower with a functioning AC unit. All in all the hotel service sucks, the bathrooms are old and falling apart, and the "Priceline" floor, has an unpleasant odor. This place is also very far from downtown Vancouver and will cost you at least 15 bucks to get to the downtown area.
