“Good Hotel - Excellent Position”

Quality Hotel Downtown

We stayed at this Hotel as part of a tour organised by Travelsphere. The rooms were tastefully decorated, the bathroom was on the small side but stilll adequate. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel is in a very good position - just a short walk from the water to cross over to Granville Island.
The restaurant in the hotel was excellent. A good all round Hotel ideal for touring the city.

“Nice Hotel and Good Location”

This hotel is located about a 15 minute walk from Robson Street, so its a good location. The price was not bad for downtown vancouver either, though breakfast was not included and was a little pricey for what you got, I would suggest have breakfast downtown it would be cheaper and you would get more for your money. The rooms were nice, clean and comfy bed. Would recommend it.

“good place for family and a dog”

This is a good hotel for a reasonable price. Nothing fancy but the room was clean (abeit a bit small for a family of 4 and a dog) and nicely appointed. We were on the alley side which was quite quiet. The free internet was very very slow. The best part was that our dog was able to stay in his crate in the room while we attended a wedding (some hotels won't let you leave your dog in the room unattended no matter what!) We didn't have time to try out the pool but it looked fun although quite small. This is a great place to stay if you are not planning on spending a lot of time in the hotel.

    • Disliked — slow internet connection (useless)

“Excellent value and very comfortable”

Quality Hotel Downtown

We were part of a tour group (Travelsphere) that started in Calgary and ended in Vancouver via the Rocky Mountains and the Rocky Mountaineer train (We can really recommend the entire trip).

We booked two extra nights at this hotel making 5 in all and we were delighted. Vancouver is a superb city and the weather was good. We were there on Canada Day (1st July) and we walked to Canada Place where the celebrations were in about 20 minutes. The "grid" system of roads makes it easy to find your way around. The Skytrain isn't much use for this hotel but they're building a new line for the Winter Olympics in 2010 which will be useful.

The bus system is good although the hotel had no information at all on public transport. You can either buy a day pass or buy a book of tickets at a discount (that's what we did and is best unless you plan to do lots of journeys in 1 day). A single ticket lasts 90 minutes and you can change buses as often as you like in that time.

As others have said the breakfast is good value and good quality. Our room was overlooking the back and we had no noise. The beds were comfortable and the hotel was spotless. We had 1 meal in the restaurant but the food in the bar.lounge was excellent value. They really go for fish and chips in Vancouver - just like home.

Granville Island is a few minutes on the mini ferry and is worth a visit with the market and street performers. Don't try to walk over the bridge as you come out a long way further on.

The staff were very helpful and friendly (except about public transport).

The only downside to Canada is that they add taxes to the prices and tipping is expected at quite a high rate. In some places they actually add it to your bill without being asked. We always crossed it off . One booklet (not in this hotel) suggested 20% for exceptional service, 15% for good and 10% if it wasn't so good. No way! We stuck to the British method. Never add your tip to the bill as it might go into the owners' pockets and only tip if the service is good. OK it may be mean but why give a tip if the service is poor?

The Quality Hotel never added tips to the bills and we tipped the staff directly if the service was good. It always was.

Stanley Park is great for a day out. We got the trolley bus there and back as it goes right into the park. There's a free shuttle bus that goes round the park every 15 minutes.

A great end to a fabulous holiday

“Great!”

This hotel is centrally located, well-appointed, and an overall great place to stay. It is a few blocks from both the Granville Island ferry and Yaletown. The rooms are nicely decorated, large, and some overlook the water. Parking at $12/day is reasonable and secure(plus, you get in-and-out privileges). The double-decker tour bus stops just outside the front lobby. Plus, it is within easy driving distance to all Vancouver attractions (you'll just have to navigate the city streets). I highly recommend this hotel.
