Despite having to dodge workers digging up slabs of concrete at the front door, everything else about the YWCA met my expectations according to the good reviews here & from other sites.
It's clean & friendly, with comfy beds & pillows. In a great location, just around the corner from Robson st and a 5min walk along
Robson to the main shopping strip, along with Granville st. The kitchens were clean, one of the desk guys gave us a few plates and cups without charge. One of us even left our bag/purse in one of the kitchens and a very honest fellow guest promptly handed it to the front desk. What a relief!
It was a bit of a hike, but we walked to Stanley Park and the totem poles from the hotel. An easy stroll and a bit of shopping along the way made it a pleasant walk. A slight incline on the way back was a little difficult for our tired feet, but they were soothed after stopping into the Robson st market. Not much of a market, but the bare & very basic food court was a goldmine! A few asian style stalls sold cultural & some modern foods. We ate at the Japanese stall and had the best meal I'd had in a long time. All the ingredients were prepared/chopped up by an elderly man & woman in the background, which was then cooked from scratch. Delicious.
Being opposite BC place, I'm guessing things would be hopping when events are held there. None while we were there, but a couple of nice restaurants/bars close by made it up for us!
