We last stayed here 4 years ago and really loved the location. It's near enough to the city yet has a different feel - probably because the Island is a working place, not just a tourist trap. The market itself is so interesting and the food is wonderful. It's also great to see the students at the Emily Carr Institute.
The hotel is really nice and the staff are friendly and helpful. We had to change our itinerary beforehand, so could only have a standard room for the first night and then a king suite for the following 2 nights. The standard room was very good, on the ground floor overlooking the patio area, and we would have happily stayed there if the king suite had been unavailable. However, we really wanted a room on the 2nd floor with a view over False creek, so changed on night 2.
Our only real disappontment was when we walked around Gastown, which really seems to have got shabby since our last visit. There are far more people begging and the whole area is in need of some upgrading. For old times sake, we even had lunch at the Old Spaghetti Factory, but the food wasn't very good, so we decided to give the city a miss and pootle around the Island instead .
