The Terminal City is an old established Vancouver club, which has been reborn with the addition of a luxury tower incorporating up-scale condos, several floors of luxury hotel suites, and extensive recreational and spa facilities. It is a fabulous property -- just across the street from Canada Place and the major cruise port facilities. If you get a room with a harbour view, you'll be able to look down on moored cruise ships, and see float planes coming and going... and all of this with the skyline of North Vancouver and the Canadian Rockies in the background.

We chose a junior suite facing the harbour. With a wall of glass, the view was exceptional. Otherwise, the room was fairly typical of what one would expect in this price range. The restaurants are very good, but the street level features a wide variety of excellent restaurants, so there is no need to feel confined to what is offered on site.

Service was flawless, and especially gratifying at a property wherein the hotel is only one of several areas of service.

This is not the best known hotel in Vancouver, but the facilities, staff and location are exceptional. Great room, excellent fitness centre and very attentive staff who are eager to please and go the extra mile. I found the price extremely reasonable given the going rate at comparable properties.

“My letter of thanks.”

MY STAY AT THE CLUB

To the Hotel Manager, August 2006.

I write to thank you and, if I may, through you, to thank all the staff and personnel at the Terminal City Club for your superb hospitality and service during my stay in Vancouver last week. This was my first visit to Canada, and so I'd like to say a special thank you to the Club for being such an outstanding ambassador for your City and Country!

Names of staff particularly remember include Hiroko, who saw me through the wide range of breakfasts available to hotel guests each day: I systematically travelled to Hawaii, Tokyo, Scotland, and elsewhere around the world each morning without ever leaving the breakfast table. Melissa guided me at lunchtime, and I'd like to mention Melissa's young man who prepared that quite outstanding barbeque on Thursday evening --- it was the first time I had really tasted oyster! Nicholas was always a special delight at table, what a great personality, he made me feel most welcome and always entertained. Mike at the bar, whom I understand is famed locally by Members for never having a bad day, confided to me his secret: always to leave any troubles outside and pick them up only when leaving the premises. Excellent advice. And Mike introduced me to a full bodied red for which I was most grateful, the wine reflected the warm and personable - distinguished - nature of the Club itself.

But everyone at the Club really was outstandingly helpful and I can't praise everyone enough.

Mine was too short a week, on business, but the weather was good and I was able to spend quality thinking time after work walking to and from Stanley Park.

At 6am each day I was in the Club pool. What a great facility. I remember the softness of the green towels; the weighing scales that lied a little more each mooring, and the wide array of cleansing lotions --- all of them magically topped up themselves as new!

On my last day, Mike asked if had any constructive criticisms to make about the Club. I was glowing and not the one to ask. I have been racking my brains to find something positive to contribute in this respect. But, so far, I have not come up with anything other than praise and thanks. My only advice is: just keep doing what you do.

I hope to return to Vancouver on business, but, alas, probably not until next year. Next time I shall certainly add a few extra days for leisure at the Hotel and bring my wife who sadly was not able to join me this time round.

I shall of course book in again, if I may. It's the only place in town.

Please tell everyone you have a number-one fan over here in Oxford. I've been telling everyone about the TC Club Hotel in Vancouver!

That very special atmosphere you all promote so gently, and so naturally, was much appreciated and makes all the difference.

Thank you. Thank everyone.

Interesting how different experiences can be! I just stayed at this hotel for 5 nights and was extremely disappointed after reading other reviews.

My husband and I stayed in an executive suite with beautiful harbor views, and it was a great base location for exploring the city.

This is an older hotel and as expected the décor and room amenities reflect same. I.E. the furniture is quality but aged, there was water damage on the walls near the shower, there are no vending machine areas, etc.

The biggest problem was the staff. I found them to be unfriendly and unhelpful. On arriving, the bell-hop didn’t even offer to take our bags up to the room! There was seldom anyone at the front door, and the concierge seemed to be at her desk only a few hours a day. When attempting to ask the front-desk staff for any information (I.E. locations, directions or other recommendations) the responses tended to be terse and vague. When calling down to ask a question about a local theater the response was “Oh, I wouldn’t no about that. Look it up in the phone book.” Basically, you are treated as if you should already know where everything is. I’ve never stayed at a hotel that didn’t even have local maps available to assist you with exploring the area.

The workout center is nice and the staff there was far more helpful. The exercise equipment is fairly standard, but the locker rooms, pool and sauna/steam rooms are exceptional.

Overall I’d say this is an overpriced hotel that puts all of its energy into catering to its club members, residents and event guests. Be prepared to pay just for the location … and extra for the views.

“Excellent One-Night Stay”

Recently spent one night in this hotel. Had an Executive Suite on the 11th Floor with great views of the harbor, Canada Place, etc.

The hotel is located one block from Canada Place and the cruise ship dock and about three blocks from GasTown and one block from the SkyTrain Waterfront station.

Room was in absolutely outstanding shape cleanliness-wise. Excellent and comfortable bed. Good bathroom and amenities including excellent water pressure and outstanding shower head.

Hotel is very quiet; staff were extremely helpful. The pool is worth a stay alone IMO.

Would absolutely stay again.
