Whistler Village Inn & Suites

Apr 10, 2008

This is more an appartment complex rather than a hotel. The room was a good size and reasonably well equipped. The location is ideal - right in the middle of Whistler village and only a couple of minutes walk to the lifts. The staff were friendly and helpful, however, the standard of cleanliness is poor; and the daily room servicing is lacking. The room wasn't vacuumed or dusted during our 14 night stay and the bathroom wasn't cleaned by the hotel staff. We had to ask for the most basic items to be replaced; such as toilet rolls. A complementary continental breakfast is provided each morning, though it was disconcerting to see that the waffle-maker is stored on a dirty floor under the breakfast table during the day! When we arrived we were told that the lift was temporarily out of use due to maintenance but it remained out of order for the entire stay.

“Great location for the price”

Whistler Village Inn & Suites

Mar 6, 2008

The highlight of this hotel is the location, location, location. You simply can't beat the location for how affordable it was, by Whistler standards. My friends and I booked a room with two doubles that cost $259/night; much cheaper than anything else that we could find within three minutes walking distance to both Blackcomb and Whistler Gondolas. We parked our car in the parking garage and didn't leave until four days later. We walked everywhere -- to plenty of restaurants, shops, bars, grocery stores and so on.

Having said that, the hotel has some issues. The elevator was broken when we were there, but the front didn't bother to tell us when we checked in. (Would have saved us the trouble of loading our bags onto the luggage cart). Because the elevators were broken, our room was very noisy because it was located next to the stairs (imagine all the ski boots clomping up and down the stairs; it sounded like elephants). The hotel also seemed a bit worn; a vacuum cleaner would have greatly improved the hallways and stairwell.

But our decent-sized room, located in the Keg Lodge, had a nice little balcony overlooking a small pool and a much-used hot tub. There was also a dry sauna. Breakfast was included, and was a nice array of pastries, waffles, juices and cereals. A definite bonus for those who want to hit the slopes early. There's a very tiny lobby with a fireplace. The staff was a little stand-offish, and seemed a little weary of its guests. Despite all the issues, we'd come back here, because the location and price were worth the trade-offs.

“Great location, better value”

Whistler Village Inn & Suites

5 of 5 stars
Winnipeg, Canada
Jan 23, 2008

We (4 adults and a baby) stayed here for two nights in Jan. 2008, a great rate of $210/night. We were in one of their large loft units in the Powder Building. The unit is great; there are two single fold-out beds (couches during the day) in the living room and a double bed in the upstairs loft. There is a fully equipped kitchen in the unit with even a dishwasher! The only downsides were that the luggage trolley had a flat tire and the elevator is a bit temperamental.

The hotel is set up in two buildings across the road from each other, with parking and ski lockers underneath. Both buildings are a 5 minute walk to the lifts for the ski hills.

Because we were in the Powder Building (across from the main building) it was a bit of a hassle to go in the pool or hot tub because it’s across the road, too far to go in your bathing suit so you have to change in the main building. A bit of a inconvenience, but worth it to look up at the stars on a minus 15C night while staying warm in the water (my hair froze).

The continental breakfast is well presented with cereals, bagels, toast etc. fruit, yogurt and those waffles irons that you cook on yourself. Book this place and enjoy.

“OK place”

Just returned from a week at the Whistler Village Inn & Suites. I was very upset with the room upon my arrival. I was on vacation with my husband for a week and the only bed in the room was a Murphy bed. I wanted a regular bed. My husband talked me out of changing rooms because of the kitchenette. I would have traded the kitchenette for a bed. Sleeping on the Murphy bed was like sleeping on the floor.

There was a fireplace but it could not be used because there was no wood and no poker/brush/shovel/starter for the fireplace.

The room was a nice size and had a table & 4 chairs as well as a sofa & chair. However, the TV could not be viewed from the sofa. It could only be viewed from the bed.

The elevator was out of order the entire week we were there. I don't mind walking up three flights of stairs but I do mind when I am carrying luggage & skis.

On the plus side - the room was kept very clean. There were fresh towels every day. Housekeeping even did our dishes for us!

It was several days before we could get the heat in the room to a tolerable level. To all you Yanks, 20 - 25 C is room temperature, not 30 C!!!! It turned out that there were two thermostats in the room. One was above the sofa. The other was hidden on the wall between the frame of the Murphy bed & the wall.

There was no Whistler info in the room. I finally found a dinning guide at the grocery store. Although there is a huge binder at the front desk. It contains menus from the restaurants in town. All you have to do is ask & the desk clerk will be happy to let you look through it.

The walls are paper thin. I could hear the Houskeeping staff talking outside our room in the morning. (Our room was near the supply closet). Also the last morning I was awakened at 5 am by the children in the room above running around.

One other plus was that the hotel is about a block from the ski lifts. Contrary to other reviews I found the staff exceedingly helpful & friendly.

The breakfast buffet was cold cereal, apples & bananas, yougert, bagels, muffins, hard boilded eggs, instant oatmeal, bread, croissants, small sweet rolls, juice and there was a waffle iron where you could cook your own waffles. But as other reviewers noted there are only two tables near the breakfast area so I always took breakfast back to the room.

“Great spot, Reasonably Priced”

Not sure why people are giving this place bad reviews, We stayed there over christmas and while some things were a little disappointing it was an enjoyable time.

The staff are good, they will try to put things right if they are not, just give them a chance.

It is not 5 star and never tries to make its self out as one... it is however a reasonably priced, 3 star place that has got the best location in town.

Walking to the lifts takes about 3 minutes. Araxi is 2 minutes. Over to the upper village is 5 minutes.

The decor is being updated at the moment. Although it was a little disappointing that they were doing this while we were staying.

We would stay there again no problems, after all, how much time do you actually spend in your room? we found that saving a little by staying here rather than 5 star, meant we could hit the nice places for dinner, do fresh tracks in the mornings after a big dump, and let my wife go nuts with the credit card a bit more than usual.
