Just returned from a PERFECTLY WONDERFUL 3 day stay at CAMBRIDGE SUITES, Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. It’s our second wonderful visit there. ( TIP: you should BOOK EARLYas these suites are booked up really quick, I waited until just a week before to book a 1 room suite, and almost didn’t get it for all the nights we needed because of full bookings. All the staff here are so friendly and helpful, true 'hospitality'!
We had a gorgeous 1-room HARBOR VIEW suite on the 3rd floor, which felt as if you were on a cruise or boat (SEE PHOTOS). Beautiful views of the Harbor, a gorgeous sunset view, beautiful still water at dawn, and sailboats during the day. It was beautiful!!! Plus a fanatastic public boardwalk to enjoy. (if your window is open it can be a little noisy at night, so for a quieter night you might want to be on a higher floor)
The room was perfectly clean – spotless – couldn’t have been nicer. When we checked in we asked for a brand new pillow, as one of us has allergies. And even before we made it to our room, there was the service-man “John” at our door delivering it! We really appreciated the quick and nice response to our kind request. (Tip: it’s probably better to ask earlier in advance for any special requests, it makes it easier for the staff)
Our room had a luxurious king size bed in the bedroom and a pull-out couch in the livingroom area. A desk & chair overlook the harbor, with access to high-speed internet. Two closets added to the convenience. There is also a table and chairs for added convenience with the fully supplied kitchenette (the suites we have had, have a Bar Fridge, Microwave Oven, a coffee maker, a sink, dishes, cutlery, glasses and a kitchenette set-up for convenience – even dish towels and dish cloths!!!)
We also noticed in our room that Cambridge Suites has a ‘grocery list’. You can mark down any groceries you need and they will buy them for you – there is NO CHARGE for this service, all they charge you for is the actual groceries! What a great service!
We enjoyed a late light supper in the serene restaurant downstairs (Goody's Cafe) – a refreshing Greek Salad with grilled chicken breast – very generous and delicious. But there were some fabulous choices on the menu - with chefs on hand to prepare, wish we had not eaten earlier and could have ordered a main entree, as they looked special.
The morning continental breakfast was really nice (included in the room cost). Lots of choices: Lovely muffins of all types, croissants and bagels, cream cheese, assorted yogurts, cold cereals, juices of all types etc. etc. etc. We really enjoyed it. We also tried the hot breakfast one morning (an extra cost) and it was nice. Some of the hotel rates included a ‘hot breakfast’ with eggs etc. So that might be a nice idea if you want a full hot breakfast too.
For added fun they even provide complimentary Microwave Popcorn in the room! It was fun to make it watch a TV late Saturday night! (Isn't that nice hospitality? how much better can it get?)
The next day we were attending a wedding and needed directions. We asked at the front desk, and within seconds they gave us a map with a highlighter pen marking the route. We could never have done it, or arrived on time, without their kindly help! The same happened on another day, when we needed directions for the scenic route home and help to find Rita’s Tearoom. Within seconds we had a map with the route marked out for us! (this was after we had driven around for 2 hours and got lost! Wish we had asked the front desk to begin with, as once we had the map we were on our way immediately! – thank you so much to the front desk!)
Check-out time is 1:00 PM! FANTASTIC check-out time for a relazing visit and check-out was a breeze – Sandi at the front desk was so friendly and it was a nice way to finish off such a lovely visit.
As mentioned this is our second visit here and we highly recommend it. BOOK EARLY to avoid disappointment. And ask for a HARBORVIEW for added beauty and a memorable trip. (the photos we have added to this are from the 3rd floor - it was really beautiful) Although any room will be great in this hotel - for comfort alone!
As a sidepoint, If there is 1 MINOR THING about the rooms: is that there is a separate sink area outside the room with the tub/toilet. It is convenient when getting ready, especially on vacation. But the problem for us is that there is no curtain or door between the sink area and the bedroom. So when someone gets up in the middle of the night or gets up early to shave etc. – the noise and lights over the sink are so disturbing to anyone in the bedroom. That was the only thing that took much of the relaxation out of it – as it was a little difficult to sleep in or rest, if someone was using the sink area. But after awhile, to help a little, we all agreed not to put the sink light on when washing our hands, or use the bathtub to wash our hands, to try not to disturb anyone in the bedroom. We hope that they might consider placing a heavy curtain or folding door between the sink/bedroom area as they have done in some of the Disney Resorts lately (Port Orleans Riverside in the fancier Oak Manor section) after similar requests.
We HIGHLY RECOMMEND it as we loved every moment, and it was a PERFECTLY WONDERFUL visit and we will return again – we are sure you will love it! (hope you are going to see the breath-taking CABOT TRAIL – it truly is a “masterpiece” --- why go to an art gallery when you can go and see the real thing?) Also, please don't miss out on RITA'S TEAROOM - it's just not a true visit without having tea & sandwiches & sweets there! All part of the wonderful Cape Breton experience!
