“just average”

Holiday Inn Halifax Harbourview

The Holiday Inn Halifax Harbourview answers the phone by stating that it is the 'award winning' Holiday Inn. I think that that is a stretch. What did they win an award for? It is really just another Holiday Inn. First, as we found out, it is not in Halifax, but rather in Dartmouth, which is across the river. It cost $0.75 to cross the river by bridge into Halifax. No staff members told us about a ferry, so we did the drive over the bridge and had to deal with parking each time in Halifax. Second, we were on the third floor and paid the extra money for a harbor view. This was a disappointment because there wasn't much of a harbor view. The third floor was rather low, with buildings and such blocking the view and the harbor was pretty far off in the distance. Third, we ate dinner in the dinning room and the food was just average, nothing special. The breakfast buffet was less than average- your typical dry scambled eggs, sausages and bacon. We were told that the children eat for free, but they could not have the breakfast buffet free. Their choice was from a lame kid's breakfast menu, which included 1)oatmeal (from a packet (we asked)) 2) yogurt and fruit, and 3) cereal. Fourth, there was a slight error in checking us in. We reserved a harbor view and but got the keys to a standard room. We had to go back downstairs and exchange keys for another room. Of course, once we saw the 'harbor view', we probably should have just stayed in the other room! The extra money was not worth it. We would not stay here again.

We stayed at this hotel in July this year for five nights. We took advantage of the 'shades of summer' package and got every second night at half price plus complete buffet breakfast included. We were travelling with our two teenage sons and were lucky to have two interconnecting rooms. Also although we didn't particularly request it we had rooms on the 3rd floor overlooking the harbour and with balconies. We have to say that the beds were very comfortable (contrary to an earlier review!) and the rooms spacious, although the bathrooms are slightly small and the handbasin is in a separate space.
We chose the hotel as parking is free, the ferry to Halifax is convenient and pleasant and only one dollar each way and also there is a pool.
Dartmouth itself is not too inspiring but we did enjoy our stay here and would certainly return if in Halifax again.

I wish I had read these reviews more carefully before booking at the Holiday Inn. While the staff is friendly, polite, and helpful, and the lobby and restaurant is lovely the room was one of the worst we have ever experienced. Mattresses were awful, bathroom is hardly big enough to close the door, walls are paper thin. We should have requested to be moved. Perhaps some of the renovated rooms are better. Ours was the worst!!! Never again.

Had to write as am looking at another trip to Halifax and was reading the reviews for the Holiday Inn in Dartmouth. We have stayed twice and enjoyed it and our rooms both times. The first time we stayed we had a harbourview room on the 6th floor, it was fabulous ,second time unable to get harborview (didn't book early enough) we like that it is just a walk down the hill to the ferry that takes you right into downtown Halifax and you don't have to pay the higher price for a downtown Halifax hotel. We love boats and the water so it isn't a hardship at all to take a pretty boat ride back and forth from our hotel. Can't believe people drive over to Halifax rather than use the ferry system. the hours are quite good and the boats run continuously, it's never a long wait. Breakfast and service were very good at the Holiday Inn, we like a big breakfast as we don't usually eat again until dinner so properties with a complimentary continental breakfast aren't high on our list. Didn't use the pool either visit so can't comment on it. it is just a standard outdoor pool. Rooms were clean and spacious.

Oh My Gosh, I have never experienced a more accomodating staff. My wife and kids were treated like royalty. We paid $15.00 extra to have a balcony and harbourview. Worth every penny!!!!!
Food, service, cleaning staff and Front Desk staff were amazing. Will stay here everytime I go to Dartmouth or Halifax
