I have stayed here several times over the past little while. A clean, reliable hotel with few surprises.
THE GOOD: convenient cental location, 5 minutes to the Byward Market with numerous restaurants and shops, you can also walk to the museums and the Parliament Buildings in about 15 minutes.
Hotel is well maintained, with a spacious lobby with free internet, friendly and quick check in, a nice little coffee bar. Staff has always been pleasant.
Rooms were re-done about 2 years ago and still look fresh. Bathrooms (also re-done) have granite counters, unusual wood-type flooring and clean, fluffy, fresh towels that appear new. No mould anywhere, and no hairs that were not mine. We had a suite on our last visit with a huge work desk, 2 flat screen plasma tvs and a 3-peice living set, bathrobes, and a separate bedroom.
Note that there is not a sheet on the bed, only a comforter (done the European way, this is a French chain)- the cover is what is changed. some people may not like this, but there is an extra sheet in the closet.
Restaurant serves excellent food, however due to being so close to the market, it is never busy. This is a shame, since the food is excellent. Breakfast buffet is adequate and fairly priced, and staff was "on the ball" keeping it replenished. If you just want coffee and a muffin, it's about $3, they do not gouge you because it's a hotel dining room. Room service was fast and nicely presented.
THE BAD: location wise, you may have a view of the men's shelter next door (ask for a high floor). (don't let this put you off, the hotel is in a good area). On lower floors the view is not that great, it may be of an air conditioner, but this is the city, so that's just the way it is.
Hallways have not been renovated, and are still the old blue and orange decor, which is rather garish.
All in all, a reliable hotel for a reasonable price.
