In Ottawa, The Business Inn is located almost perfectly at the corner of MacClaren and Elgin.. You need not walk far to find bars/restaurants, as they are everywhere! The suite resembled a one-bedroom apartment, with a living area, dining room and kitchen, plus an outside balcony. Very nice [free] Dell computer with printer. King bed in the bedroom and queen-size sleeper sofa in the living area. I couldn't have asked for more. Adjacent sports bar on the first floor. That's the good, now the marginal.
Parking:
One word, terrible! They have a basement parking garage that is very tight, with assigned spots. The basement parking resembles a used furniture and appliance scrapyard., complete with surplus refrigerators, washing maches, air conditioners, desks, CO2 cannisters, etc. Yes it is secure, but to access it you have to hold-up your parking pass to a small viseo camera at the gate that is recognized by the front desk. Never seen anything like that during all my travels. The DO have a small outside lot, but since the spots are numbered, you have to request it.
Breakfast:
Laughable! Their version of a cont breakfast is bagels, croissants, bitter bran muffins, no cereal, and coffee from air pots. Juice consists of a refrigerator with small juice boxes of apple and orange, IF you get there early enough. THAT'S IT! They REALLY need to improve that!
Very nice TV with many local channels, however there was no description of what those channels are. There is NO TV in the bedroom though.
I think the last annoyance was the actual metal key that fit a flimsy door knob. Needs to be modernized.
I was only there for a weekend, but my colleague was there for a month on a business trip. He couldn't beat the price at $119 a night, and surprisingly when he checked-out, the clerk informed him that he had been overcharged and was properly compensated.
One more thing, the alcohol policies in Canada are not like the US. You cannot walk to the corner store and pick-up a six-pack, as alcohol sales are strictly regulated by the government.
For a long, affordable stay, The Business Inn does the job. For a quickie however, I would look elsewhere.
