“Location Great - Hotel Not”

Hotel Victoria

Just got back from a 2-night stay at Hotel Victoria. My husband travels for business and a tag along. Great location - hotel not great! Small, old and run down. Our room faced Yonge Street and was very nosiy. Wooden shutters, no drapes, did not keep out the lights from the street. The carpet was so filthy that we felt compelled to wear shoes to walk on it. The bedspread was stained. The elevator very slow. The bathroom was clean except for the /bathtub/shower walls. Luckily, the weather was pleasant. Otherwise, the wall air conditioner would not have been sufficient to cool the room. The staff apparently knew nothing about the city and did not understand English. When asked for directions to catch the brightly-colored sightseeing buses, she appeared clueless. I went to the staff at another hotel and was given specific directions. When asked about places to eat dinner, they were not entirely sure which way to point.

There is a cafe downstairs. However, $12 for cereal, milk and a muffin seemed expensive. Walk one block to Richtree and eat a full breakfast or whatever you want for less money. Try the PATH, the underground mall, for everything you would ever need.

This hotel was booked for us by someone else. We will be returning to Toronto in a couple of weeks and will definitely not be staying at the Hotel Victoria.

“Adequate for a short stay”

We booked this hotel because of its proximity to the train station - about a 5-minute walk.
Our twin room was small and badly lit. There was no ceiling light and the wall and desk lights weren't at all adequate. On the plus side, the bathroom was spacious and had nice fittings. All that could be seen out the window was a high brick wall. The advantage of being at the back of the hotel, of course, was that the room was quiet.
The hotel has no restaurant facilities of its own - a door from the lobby leads into a non-affiliated place that serves breakfast and lunch. We were told that it was a bit overpriced, so we tried a deli/restaurant at the end of Yonge Street for a cooked breakfast. If you want a lighter breakfast 'to go', you can walk to a small Tim Hortons on one of the side streets. Since the hotel is on busy Yonge Street, there are plenty of eateries within a short walking distance.
We spent one night there, and wouldn't have liked to have been based there for all our time in Toronto. The room just wasn't nice enough. But people who want to stay right in the city centre and who reckon that 'all you need is a bed' probably won't find a better-value place than the Hotel Victoria.

Just a short version, upside for this hotel, Location great in the middle of everything, Free wireless connection, Room Ok.

Downside, only 1 very slov elevator, room very small, no restaurant after 7 PM,

This is ok for a short business stay if the only thing yoy need is a good located hotel with ok rooms and a wireless connection, but dont bring family or your partner its not really a very nice hotel.

Was in TO in June of 2005, to attend a librarians' conference at the Conference Centre. Being on the usual university travel allowance, I took one look at the "special conference rates" at the downtown hotels, and nearly decided to stay at the university residence instead [ as one or two of my colleagues did ] . Fortunately, a consultant friend in TO told me about the Hotel Victoria, which she said had just been completely refurbished a year or so before. So, i booked there at roughly half the price of the large conference hotels, and had a pleasant 15 minute walk each morning over to the conference centre. Or at least as pleasant as walking ANYWHERE could be with a temperature in the high 80s-low 90s, the humidity supersaturated at about 120 %, and a smog alert in effect the entire eight days i was in TO.

Stayed there for 4-5 nights. The staff were friendly, never had to wait more than 3-4 minutes to flag down a taxi, subway entrance also handy. The place was clean, cool, quiet, no traffic noise because of thick wall construction, nice non-smoking room, comfortable bed, very nice furniture, and for $5 extra I got an in-room bar to keep my insulin cool. And the room was NOT beside a freight elevator running till 2 am and restarting at 5 like one i had in a big conference hotel a few yrs earlier [ which shall remain nameless ] . Included continental breakfast in 2005.

PLEASE DO NOT STAY AT THE HOTEL VICTORIA AT THE END OF JANUARY 2007- I'm going to be back in TO again for a conference, and if y'all beat me to bookin' a room, this hyar good ol boy'll be straight outa luck. Seriously, a very nice boutique hotel, close to the Market and the restaurants there. I strongly recommend it.

We were looking for a hotel in the downtown area for a weekend getaway, when we were referred to the Hotel Victoria by a family friend.. After a quick and effortless booking, we anticipated our weekend in Toronto. Upon arrival we found the staff to be friendly and our room and the hotel in general was better then expected. Our room was clean, quiet and comfortable and appears to have been recently remodeled.
I appreciated the wireless internet connection to keep on top of my email.
The hotel is close to many of Toronto's attractions and if you are
like us you will enjoy the short walk to the local restaurants and
shopping locations.

We would certainly recommend the hotel based on our experience.
