“Best and most convenient stay in Toronto”

Days Hotel & Conference Centre - Toronto Downtown

5 of 5 stars
Nottingham
Jul 5, 2008

I stayed at the Days Hotel with my wife for 7 nights (21-28 June). Hotel ideally situated with subway station approx 200m away and streetcars passing the door. The hotel is only a 10-15 minute walk from Toronto’s major shopping centre (Eaton Centre) and surrounding bars, clubs and more shops.

Although signs were displayed everywhere that the hotel is undergoing refurbishment there were no obvious disruptions or indications of ongoing works. The reception, restaurant and room (1907) were immaculately clean and well maintained.

Nice sized indoor swimming pool, sauna and fitness centre on the 6th floor also giving access to a sun decked area. The pool at this hotel also lacks proper changing room facilities / lockers that seem to be typical of the hotels on this trip. Also pool towels have to be collected from reception – a bit of a bug-bear having to queue when they are extremely busy checking people in/out of the hotel!

Recommend the hotel’s buffet breakfast for approx $14CAD but the hotel’s Windows restaurant has only a very limited menu for lunch/dinner. We ate a couple of times at the Mick E Fynns bar across the road from the hotel where the choices were plentiful, prices reasonable and the food excellent.

One quirk that we discovered was that most of the hotel floors only have a down button on the elevators; therefore if you go down a floor or two to use the ice machine / laundry etc. you either have to use the stairs to go back up or go all the way down to the lobby to go back up again! We were on the 19th floor and this became a minor inconvenience is an otherwise excellent hotel!

Overall it was an excellent value for money stay and we would definitely stay again when in Toronto. Best hotel by far of the three hotels used on this trip.

“perfect”

Days Hotel & Conference Centre - Toronto Downtown

Jun 30, 2008

I usually stay at 4 or 5-star hotels, but needed to save some money this time. I was a bit concerned about some of the reviews I had read on here, but decided to give it a try and was very pleasantly surprised.

I was expecting a small dirty reception area, but there is a fantastic lavish one with very friendly and helpful staff.

The hallways are in need of a refurbishment, but there were signs up all over saying refurbishment was about to start. The room was wonderful though. Exceptionally clean and comfortable, with a coffee perculator! The power shower was great. I was on the street facing the tramline and the noise was not an issue - I was on the 19th floor however.

Location is perfect! Very near the centre and all the happenings of church street.

One of the helpful reception staff ordered me a taxi to the airport at a flat rate of $50, which I thought was quite reasonable.

This hotel is a lot better than some of the 4-star hotels I have stayed at, and I will be staying here the next time I visit Toronto.

“Clean, Inexpensive hotel with false advertising”

Days Hotel & Conference Centre - Toronto Downtown

2 of 5 stars
Wimberley, Texas
Jun 28, 2008

First of all, our room was clean and small and the staff are very helpful and courteous. However, the Days Inn Downtown Toronto engages in false advertising. They say they offer free wireless internet in the rooms but it never worked. I was told they were having problems with the ISP and would be corrected in a couple months. AAA should not have their ad for free internet in their book and Days Inn corporate should stop the lie. Fortuntely the internet coffee shop on the street below offers good internet service. It tells you something that a small coffee spot has better internet than the multinational Days Inn chain.

Second, only when you show up are you told there is a $50.00 per night "security deposit" that will be refunded 3 to 5 days after you check out. Apparently they had some problems in the past with students trashing the rooms; so now they are penalizing all customers with this stupid and undisclosed at the time of booking charge. This is also corporate foolishness that the staff is not responsible for.

On the positive side, the Days Inn Toronto Downtown is inexpensive for this city and it is a decent place simply to sleep and shower. If you want convenience and amenities, this is NOT the place. Would I stay here again? Probably not.

“Value for money downtown”

Days Hotel & Conference Centre - Toronto Downtown

Jun 20, 2008

Date 20 June 2008
Reviewer: Ant & Ang UK
The Days Hotel is in downtown Toronto, well located for bus, metro & streetcars. Within walking distance of Eaton Shopping Centre. The hotel room was small by Canada standard but came with cooler, TV, coffee maker. It was very clean and quiet. Front desk very helpful. Good value for money at £52 per night.

“You do NOT want to stay in this hotel”

Days Hotel & Conference Centre - Toronto Downtown

Jun 12, 2008

Air smells like cigarette smoke in the non-smoking rooms. A/C did not cool, and when fanning, made loud noises. Bed cover had cigarette burning holes. Beds are uncomfortable (WAY too soft that you can slip down from the edges...)-- very very old mattresses. Shower head was broken. Color has been peeling from the bath tab walls. TV sound made strange noises. Toilet is cleaned with some oily detergent that stays...Water doesn't flush. Windows are so dirty you cant see the outside. It takes a long while to wait for the elevators... and don't pull too hard on the shower faucet cause it might just stay in your hand.
AND--- after particularly emailing in advance to ask for one matrimonial bed, we got a room with 2 beds and couldn't switch. Yes, we did change on the next day, but only to find that all the up-mentioned defects were present in both rooms.
Not even close to being "a good deal for the price."
