“A touch of Europe right in Canada”

Montreal

Aug 3, 2007

Montreal is a city full of culture and diversity. As Quebec's largest city is almost like being in Europe without leaving Canada. Very metropolitan. City has many great attractions and offers all to all types.
One of those cities in which is great to go anytime of the year. From summer/spring for all of the festivals. To fall/winter theres the winter carnavel and hockey season. Montreal is best know for their smoked beef and corn beer sandwiches.

Also for all the unspeaking french people out there. No worries on french, you don't need french to visit Montreal.

“A great weekend getaway”

My husband and I drove up to Montreal from the Boston area for a long weekend to celebrate our 2nd anniversary. Montreal is a very cosmopolitan city with more European influence than American. The city is very clean and they even have recycling receptacles next to the trash cans! The people there were extremely friendly and 95% of the time we had no issues with a language barrier. Everyone there speaks English. We found only a few people who were reluctant to speak English or just spoke only a little English. There is plenty to do in Montreal and everything is relatively easy to get to. The only problem we had is that the Metro stations seem to be labryinths. In a few of them it felt like you had to walk forever to get to the actual train. One of them we somehow bypassed the train all together and ended up walking to the entire next stop before we found the train.
There are also several resteraunts to choose from no matter where you are in Montreal. The only issue we had with the city itself is that it is an expensive city, especially now with the American dollar not being worth as much. Montreal is definatly a great place to spend an extended weekend.

Old Montreal is such a beautiful place. I would visit it over and over again. The cobblestone streets just make it so cozy. The restaurants that all have patio's or decks make it entertaining. The metro station close by makes it easy. The carriage rides provide the history of the town. The science museum provides intersting facts and education. There are ample things to do in Montreal. While we were there we are at Jardin Nelson's...this is now my favorite place...my fiance proposed to me there :)! We ate the The Keg...excellent restaurant. We also ate at The Hard Rock Cafe. This was just 'okay' for the price. If you ever get the opportunity...visit Old Montreal!

Montreal is a place I will never go back to. The airline cancelled our flight out of Philadelphia and resheduled us for a flight leaving 3 hours later, didn't put our luggage on the plane so we spent our first 2 days in Montreal without our things. Airline employees rude. Weather cold and windy for entire stay in June 2007. Took a dinner cruise on the St. Lawrence, food so-so; waste of money. Very expensive and the cab drivers go out of their way to rip you off. Better to spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

“A lovely city, safe & an Ice Hockey fans paradise”

Montreal

Apr 1, 2007

I went with the aim of watching two Montreal canadiens games and thus realise a life long dream. What I got was the most beautiful ice hockey experience and in addition the most wonderful city. Although it reached -12 in temperature I dressed accordingly and got on with it, walked just about everywhere and never felt unsafe, even late at night. Old Montreal is beautiful, Notre dame enchanting, rue St Catherine a time and money spender. rue Crescent is a great night time spot for a few drinks but my heaven was the Centre Bell where the Ice Hockey was fabulous and the organization look after you from the moment you walk in, if only I could go more, I recommend the guided tour.

In conclusion I went for 6 nights and came away wanting more and my french has come along way too. great city and I believe its alot lot better in the summer, sadly no ice hockey at that time of year for me though. My tip for anyone going is to take thermals, scarf and a hat and some good walking shoes.
