“Excellent restaurant.”

Jarvis Fleece Hotel

3 of 5 stars
Bedford, United Kingdom
Apr 2, 2008

Stayed for two nights at the end of January to celebrate my partner's 40th birthday.

The room was quite small and the trouser press did not work which was disappointing as we needed it. However, the room was very clean, the tea, coffee etc. was replinshed everyday, the water pressure in the shower was excellent and the water VERY hot.

We dined in the resaurant next to the hotel as there was a function in the hotel resaurant. The food was truely excellent and very reasonably priced for the quality and variety - I paid for dinner, bed and breakfast so this was included in the cost. The resaurant's selection of wines was impressive and were well cellared so tasted good too.

The staff were friendly and helpful - a problem with my bill at check out was rectified without quibble in minutes.

Over all an enjoyable stay and will return.

“Great location”

Jarvis Fleece Hotel

4 of 5 stars
London, England

Stayed on a Sunday night - not terribly busy. Room was fairly small but adequate - on-suite bathroom was bigger! Room decor was a bit out of date but this seemed to make it even more charming - though the bed wasn't the most comfortable. Breakfast was pretty good, the hot food was cooked with a personal touch - did not get a great deal but it was delicious. Car park is small and could be a problem during busier periods. Service seemed friendly and helpful enough - plus the hotel is ideally situated just a stones' throw from Cirencester abbey and also has a bit of history attached to it.

“Pleasant enough”

Jarvis Fleece Hotel

Aug 6, 2007

Stayed one night in Augst 2007 whilst attending horse trials nearby. The parking is tight (as mentioned elsewhere) but adequate. The room was okay but needed a lick of paint. Staff were friendly. Best bit was breakfast - cooked to order (as opposed to a buffet) and was excellent. It can be noisy (we were right over the town centre road with all those young intelligent types and their loud car stereos). Room was small but functional. TV had four channels (my wife and I struggle to find something to watch with 50!). We'd stay again but not for more than one night.

“Service it's saviour”

We stayed here for a couple of nights over the Easter weekend and weren't disappointed.

The hotel is located right in the heart of Cirencester which is a lovely village. Although the free hotel parking is limited to about 10 spaces - we found a space ok.

Initial welcome was lacklustre but quick and we were soon in our rooms. These were ok: clean, equipped as i would expect - safe, kettle, tv, etc. Bathroom had soaps, shampooos, etc but bathroom suite was a little old. In fact, the toilet didnt flush very well. Water was hot with a high pressure - bath filled v. quickly. On our last morning the boiler broke down! Fortunately we were offered the use of an empty room running off a different boiler to shower so I won't mark the hotel down for this - on the contrary, it shows good service!

The bed wasnt comfortable (too hard).

Almost all of the staff were cheerful, friendly and very helpful when we had occasion to ask.

Breakfast was fine. A nice spread and cooked breakfast was ok.

The hotel bars/restaurants were plentiful, varied and food was nice enough. Very convenient for a few beers at the end of the day!

To summarise, while the rooms are nothing special, the location, hotel amenities and staff within the hotel made it a pleasure to stay at.

“A good effort”

On the whole, I have the impression that this hotel seems to be moving in the right direction, but does have some room for improvement. All the staff are friendly and helpful and the hotel clean and welcoming. Bookings were handled professionally, and the reception staff have good local knowledge. Our room was large, with a separate dressing room and decent sized bathroom, however, the décor was a little dated, odd even and the furniture a little faded in places, though not so much as to be a constant distraction. The bathroom was perhaps the oddest of all with a built in pelmet over the bath to hide the shower curtain rail, that effectively meant showering in the semi-dark as the light was blocked out! To compensate, we had comfy sofas and a good comfortable bed with crisp linen.

Breakfast was good, cooked to order and a very good selection. Carparking is very limited, but this is Cirencester! Lunch in the Bistro was good too, and the hotel is well placed for discovering Cirencester itself.

We were visiting friends and this hotel did the job for the weekend and I would stay again on that premise, but not if I wanted a luxury weekend away.
