Right in the heart of the quiet town of Tetbury, this 500 year old hotel is full of rustic charm. My wife and I stayed for two nights in room 207. I would reccomend rooms on the second (top) floor, as the floorboards do creak a bit under foot. I was glad no rooms were above mine.
The bedroom is sizeable, with usual facilities, and exposed original wooden beams. The bathroom I would describe as larger than average, with shower, bath, bidet and wash basin. There was a lack of shelving though. But this may have something to do with the age and type of the building. This made the walls uneven.
The lounges downstairs are very quiet and comfortable with deep leather chairs to relax into with a brandy after eating. It's all very cosy.
The restaurant food is very good, with three courses in the evening costing between thirty and forty pounds.
If you dont want box shaped rooms and clinical conditions, go to The Close and enjoy a lovely building with quaint rooms and friendly service. I'd happily return.
