“A beautiful hotel with great helpful staff!”

Lake House Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Sheffield
Dec 30, 2007

Me and my partner stayed in the Lake House Hotel for two nights in November. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful - they provided information on what to do and where to go. The rooms were immaculately clean and the breakfast was lovely - hot and a massive selection to choose from. There is parking outside the hotel and it is only a short walk to Ambleside village. The rooms were large and there is a huge DVD library if you want to borrow anything for free. We have recommended this hotel to friends and will definately be staying here again next time we go to the Lake District.

“Very pretty, great location, pleasant stay”

Lake House Hotel

Oct 31, 2007

The Lake House Hotel is in a great location, on a road up above Lake Windermere and 5-10 minutes walk from the centre of Ambleside. It was very easy to find on entering the town. Parking was a little tight, but not a problem. The building is lovely, and all the staff were very friendly. We had a standard room, which was very nicely decorated. It had TV/DVD player (there were a selection of around 70 DVD's that you could borrow), comfy bed, tea/coffee/hot choc, hairdryer, bath/great shower etc, only downside was that the room was a little on the small side and there is no reception for channel 5 there!! There was also a folder type thing in the room with lots of information on what to see and do in the lakes.

We were told that we could use the swimming pool at their sister hotel, The Regent free of charge, but did not take advantage of this as we were only there for a short stay. We did walk past it though, and it is only 5 minutes away.

The hotel has a computer for free internet access on the first floor, which was very handy, if a little slow for those used to broadband.

Breakfast was available between 8.30 and 9.30. They offer a buffet style with full english incl. cumberland sausage, as well as croissants, yogurts, juice etc.

Opposite the hotel, you can get on a boat to go across the lake, there are also some gift shops and two or three cafes (all of which catered very well for vegetarians).

We had a very pleasant stay here it is a great base for exploring Ambleside and the surrounding area. The only fault would be that the hotel is quite expensive - we got a discounted rate to their standard tariff - I would not have booked it otherwise, however this seemed to be true of all hotels in Ambleside and not just this one. Having said this they are running some good winter deals.

“Overpriced - nothing special”

Lake House Hotel

3 of 5 stars
Tyne and Wear
Aug 4, 2007

The hotel is in a good location and the staff are very friendly and helpful, but it is certainly not worth the tariff (and we got a late
rooms rate).

We travel regularly and have stayed in many large, small and medium sized hotels - with a preference for small to medium simplicity. Although the Lake House aspires to be 'chic' (according to its website) it is definitely off the mark.

While the reception and dining areas are nicely done, the room we stayed in (number four) was very disappointing. Although the bed was reasonably comfortable, main bedding was clean and bathroom was spotless, the valance on the bed and the carpet were visibly grubby, with numerous dirty marks. The decor was a bit tatty, nothing matched
or blended in, refreshments were mediocre (UHT milk etc) and there were absolutely no extra touches, e.g. no glasses in room, no hairdryer, no additional bedding, no water.

However, the thing that really bugged us was that despite paying extra for a superior room, there wasn't even a wall mounted shower or separate cubicle. The bathroom had a handheld shower head which had to be used while crouching in the bath as there was no screen or shower curtain.

I have to say that this hotel would definitely not be one to which we would return - it is overpriced and does not hit the mark. You can
get much more for your money in the Lakes.

“Excellent Relaxed Hotel”

Lake House Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Congleton
May 29, 2007

Booked this hotel on day of arrival, for myself, my wife and 18month old daughter.

Arrived and were shown around hotel and then to room.
Room was excellent and homely with antique pine furniture and good quality bedding and furnishings.

My daughter liked the fact that there was a cuddly toy on the bed for our arrival.

Location on hotel is excellent above Waterhead bay (in lovely grounds with tables and chairs outside) where there are boat rides a few restaurants / cafes / shops and a great pub.

DVD's are available for free from a selection, and also there is an honesty bar which is a great facility.

Breakfast in the dining room was great - both selection and quality and the staff could not do enough for our daughter - high chair laid out and kept asking if we needed warm milk etc - also they had special childrens cutlery etc.

Overall it is a relaxed, high quality boutique style B&B with great staff.
