The reviews of this hotel do a great job of describing what it's like to stay at Rampsbeck Country House so I only have a few things to add: we had a room with a view of the lake and it was very large, had a huge television and a little balcony.Very nice and comfy. Decor is definitely a little dated, ugly bed spread and somewhat drab carpeting but that's what you get if you stay at a traditional English hotel and is not very important, in my view.
Food is the opposite: trendy and modern. Beef cheeks abound. Everything has foam, jus or is confit and is presented in tidy little piles. This is the kind of food my husband adores and I loathe. Am happy to say the staff/chef was extremely nice about making me the simple food I love. So if you just want a green salad and grilled fish, do not be afraid to ask. The breakfast is delicious. I thought the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs was the best I have ever had.
Only disappointment is there are no good walks right by the hotel so we had to drive to Pooley Bridge (which was not far). The hotel does not provide maps but they made us photocopies from the guide books that they have. The staff is all lovely and helpful. Wi-fi works in the lobby.
