I took my partner to the hotel for the bank holiday weekend on the 27th May for 2 nights, It was a birthday surprise and we had a fantastic time there. I spent several weeks before researching 4 and 5* hotels in London with a good location, swimming pool and some character. The Courthouse came out the first choice and I was not dissapointed. This hotel has plenty of character with the old courthouse and prison cells in the bar as well as the modern day luxury's.
The hotel staff were freindly and as I had emailed the reservations before hand direct, we had been upgraded to an executive room. For London standards the room was huge and we had the complementary bath robes and slippers along with a range of toiletries that you would expect from a 5 star hotel. Unlike a previous review we found that the Air Conditioning was absolutely fine and had no trouble sleeping, the bed and the bedding they used were very comfortable.
The breakfasts were amazing, there was a fantastic choice of all foods and the head staff member was constantly checking to make sure that food did not run out. The service staff were very freindly and the atmosphere was very relaxing, we ate our breakfast one morning in the area where the Silk Restaurant is where the court sessions would have taken place which was wonderful.
To use the swimming pool and sanariam you need to book as the area is quite small and too many people in there would spoil it, when we checked in we decided to book for a few hours later and had no trouble getting in, we had the whole place to ourselves! The pool lighting was kept low which created a realxing atmosphere, there was fresh fruit available in the changing rooms and the pool area and we were given towells, robes and slippers.
The bar area was lovely and the staff really know how to make the coctails! Yes the drinks are expensive but what do you expect for a 5* in the heart of London, well worth a treat though and sitting in one of the old prison cells added to the experience!
The only minor problem I had was regarding the billing on the room, You can chek your bill on the TV menu which I would reccomend save any surprises at reception on check out!
I noticed they had put an amount for the complementary room upgrade on there and also some champagne which was paid for seperately by a family member over the phone. This was rectified very quickly whilst I was on the phone although the next day the upgrade amount appeared again for the second night, another quick call and it was soon removed!
I notice on other reviews some people have rated the hotel lower purely on reservation problems, what a shame this is as Its just a case of using some common sense and doing some research before hand! I booked with Otel.com who were the cheapest rate by far, I checked with Otel that it included all tax and vat which it did and then called up the hotel the week before just to make sure they had the reservation and it was all ok, which it was.
If your looking for a lovely hotel with charater and luxury in a great location then look no futher, I am very picky with where I stay and I was very impressed with The Courthouse, it made my partners surprise birthday weekend a very memorable experience!
