“Loved Bath hated Travelodge”

Travelodge Bath Central

Feb 11, 2008

We stayed at the Travelodge, in Bath Central.

Some of the rooms are quite large and roomy but ours was small. The TV didn't work (no aerial), there wasn't a kettle in the room (there were mugs and tea and coffe), we could not get the shower off once we turned it on, the cold water tap was steadily dripping and we could not turn that off, the bedside light and overhead light did not work.

We eventually managed to get the taps off and asked for a kettle at around 4 o'clock - our friends had a family room i.e
double bed and sofa but the bedding for the sofa was not in the room, they asked for bedding at the same time we asked for the kettle. at 6-30 neither kettle nor bedding had turned up so back to the receptonist, who told us that she had been unable to leave the reception desk and was on a break - she would get bedding etc after her break. To be fair, we did not see any other staff on the premises and she seemed to be on her own trying to do everything and not surprisingly not succeeding.

We went out, returned at around 11.30 - no bedding or kettle again in fairness the lady who was on reception this time did hand over what we needed immdiately.

Looking forward to a good nights sleep we went back to our rooms - and what do you know, there is a night-club in the basement (do not think it belongs to the hotel) so we had the lovely soothing BOOM BOOM to lull us to sleep, around 2 a.m. we expected that it must surely be closing for the night but no, around 4 a.am. we were so tired that we fell asleep exausted, nightclub still booming away!

We awoke early - did not dare to shower in case we could not turn it off and it would flood the bathroom again, returned keys to reception at 9 a.m. and gladly left the place.

However, if you can get over all the hiccups then the location is great - right in the centre and within walking distance to all shops and most amenities personally I prefer a hotel with taps that turn off, kettles, lighting and more than one member of staff to be seen.

Be aware that bookin-in time is 3 p.m., our friends arrived early to be told that their room wasn't ready but they could have a room to leave their luggage in for an extra £10 which they paid, guess what? Their room that wasn't ready was the one they paid the extra £10 for - which was ready and no they did not get a refund!

Had a good time in Bath though, lovely place.

“what you would expect from a Travelodge”

Excellent location, right in central bath, 2 minute walk from shopping area, baths, pubs, restaurant etc. Room as you would expect for a Travelodge, apart from the bathroom which was unheated and pretty cold.

No parking at hotel but you can park at Charlotte Street car park (probably the closest for long stay) we paid £9 to park from 10am on a saturday until 11am on a Sunday.

No facilities at hotel apart from snack vending machines in reception.

“Superb location but basic accommodation”

Travelodge Bath Central

We stayed here for two nights from New Years Day in a "family room" for four.
The location is superb - it really is in the centre of Bath - surrounded by shops and restaurants.
The welcome at reception wasn't particularly warm or efficient, and in this area are two vending machines similar to those more usually found in Leisure Centres.
The communal carpets are tired and starting to go threadbare.
We asked for a quiet room and our request was dealt with as best as possibly could be for a city centre hotel.
The room had a comfortable double bed and a sofa with a pull out. The beds for our children were not made up.
It was basic but warm and quite cosy - there was a TV showing the 4 main channels and a small kettle with tea/coffee sachets.
The bathroom was tired and for some reason unheated - the heated towel rail have apparently all been disconnected!
Due to the convenient location, we would stay there again - but only if we were to benefit from the same bargain price of £25 per night - wouldn't pay too much more as there are innumerable hotels and B&Bs locally.

“Central and Convenient”

Travelodge Bath Central

Trying to book a hotel in Bath isn't easy with many over-priced hotels around which are not great and only allow a minimum of 2 nights stay in order to take your booking. The Travelodge on the other hand is reasonably-priced, central and will accept 1 night bookings only, which is ideal.

The Travelodge is in George Street Bath and abour 7-8 minutes walk from the Charlotte Street carpark so it's worth dropping your bags off first before you park.

The building looks pretty Grand outside but inside it's the usual standard you would expect from a Travelodge - nothing fancy but clean and tidy.

Noise was not a problem in our room which was towards the back of the hotel. Some of the room fittings had been damaged (presumably by a previous Stag/ Hen party!) but overall we found the hotel to be exactly what we wanted - conveniently located and reasonably priced.

Bath Abbey and the shopping area are only 5 minutes walk away and the main bars are literately in the street outside - our walk back after a night out, took about 2 minutes!

Overall, Travelodges are never going to be great but this one ticks all the right boxes for a budget stay in Bath. Perhaps some re-furbishment is needed but we would probably stay there again.

“Not bad~!”

I certainly not agree that this hotel is not worth to stay.

from my point of view, the hotel is cheap if you make an advanced booking (say 2 months earlier). My room is about 20 pounds per nite. The room is attached with additional changing room. Which allow you to put all your luggage, whatever~! its even can fit 1-2 people in the changining room.

The view of the room maybe not good, it is facing to carpark. However, as a foreign tourist, i felt the overall building is very nice. It is quite quiet especially at night.

The bathroom is well maintain. I does not find any holes or dirty.. So, maybe I am the lucky one who have the good room.

If you drive, you might have problem finding carpark as the carpark is far (we cant find where the carpark located at) and we need to spent more times to find a legal parking around the hotel.

The hotel is quite hard to find as it is not stated obviously on the street. But, it is quite near to the town if you walk. Approx. 10-15 mins walk.

Oh, i remember, my corridor light is not function. I tried to complain to the service counter, but due to the weekend, no one has come to repair it. Ended up, we dont bother about it.
